    The Department of Political Science and International Affairs seeks a tenure-track assistant professor to pursue research in Legislative Studies and Public Policy in US politics and provide course instruction on the same at all levels of the department curriculum.  The assistant professor will be responsible for building a robust record of published research, delivering high-quality instruction to undergraduate and graduate students, and providing service within the University, as well as to the profession and the wider community.

    We seek candidates whose scholarly and teaching interests center on American politics, especially the legislative process and the creation of public policy.  Applicants may focus their research either on the U. S. Congress, and/or state legislatures. While subspeciality is open, the successful candidate will aid the department in offering courses on Congress, State and Local Government, and Public Policy, as well as the core introductory course in American politics. Additionally, the candidate will have the opportunity to develop advanced courses in their specific area of specialization. We are especially interested in applicants whose teaching or research can contribute complementary offerings to our department, such as: Media and Politics, Quantitative Data Analysis, Interest Groups and Political Parties, and Women and Politics.  We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching and research will contribute to the department’s commitment to inclusive excellence and is complimentary to existing expertise.  The standard teaching load consists of four courses distributed across two semesters.

    Duties/Responsibilities

    Scholarship (40%)

    • Academic research in US legislative studies, public policy and related topics, including publications in peer-reviewed outlets and presentations at academic conferences.

    Teaching (35%)

    • Instruction of students at various levels of the department and college curriculum, with an emphasis on US politics, legislative studies and public policy.

    Service (25%)

    • Service in various capacities to the department, the College of Liberal Arts, the University of New Hampshire, the academic profession, and to the community in large. Examples of service include participation on committees, representing the department in the University Senate, organizing an academic conference, and engaging in research presentations to the public.

    Requirements

    Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

    • Ph.D. in Political Science with a subfield specialization in American Politics.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • The strongest applications will have evidence of productive scholarship.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Teaching experience preferred.

    Compensation Pay Range:

    $74,658

    The rank of the selected candidate will depend upon the candidate’s qualifications.
