Summary of Position

This position is a joint hire between Youngstown State University (YSU) and Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) with Youngstown State University serving as the appointing institution.

At Youngstown State University (YSU) teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses determined by departmental needs and individual expertise in statistics or data science. Pursue appropriate scholarship and participate in department, college, and university service activities. At Northeast Ohio Medical University NEOMED, lead the capstone course and related projects in the new Health Data Science and AI master's degree program (students enrolling Fall 2026). Engage with the Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI) and affiliated hospital partners to collaborate on healthcare-related AI projects and statistical analyses, aligned with research interests and institutional needs.

Position Information

Plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to promote and direct student success. Responds to students in a timely manner. Communicates with students, departments, and university officials via university provided tools and resources.

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday, including some evenings, and the possibility of some weekend days. This position will require work at both YSU campus and NEOMED campus.

Qualifications and Competencies

Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: None

Sponsorship and/or Work Authorization Status: Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a related field earned or to be completed by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications: Strong interest in graduate scholarship, evidence of excellent teaching, and commitment to conducting scholarly research. Background in student mentorship, statistical consulting and data analysis, and the development and application of AI in health care settings. Although all areas of statistics and data science will be considered, preference will be given to candidates whose research area is biostatistics or health data science with experience in the use of AI in health care settings. Passionate about working with undergraduate and master level students on research projects and for participating in the YSU Data Mine.
