    Job Description

    The College of Nursing is excited to welcome a new Assistant Professor, tenure track, who has high potential for growth through their research, teaching, and service. Tenure-track faculty are expected to establish or maintain a sustained, extramurally funded program of research, disseminate scholarly works in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, and deliver exceptional, evidence-based instruction. Teaching assignments are balanced against research productivity. This individual will meaningfully contribute to College, University, professional, and community through service.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Research & Scholarship

    • Establish and maintain a sustainable, identifiable program of research that expands the body of nursing knowledge.
    • Demonstrate a sustained record of seeking competitive funding (intramural and extramural) to advance their specific research agenda.
    • Disseminate research findings via peer reviewed data-based journal articles and presentations at regional, national, and international scientific conferences.

    Teaching, Mentorship, and Educational Leadership

    • Deliver excellent instruction in undergraduate and/or graduate programs based on areas of expertise, adapting to varying course complexities and enrollment sizes. (Instructional workload is subject to departmental allocation and external funding buyouts).
    • Employ innovative, inclusive pedagogical methods, educational technologies (e.g., simulation, telehealth tools), or curriculum re-designs that educate students, colleagues, patients, or communities from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
    • Participate actively in course and program meetings to contribute to the ongoing development, continuous evaluation, and enhancement of academic programs.
    • Support graduate and undergraduate student milestones by participating on PhD dissertation and DNP project committees, and mentoring students through research engagement and scholarly dissemination.

    Service & Professional Citizenship

    • Maintain a dependable institutional service record, taking on meaningful governance responsibilities within the College of Nursing that grow over time.
    • Establish growing engagement with professional nursing organizations, scientific societies, or specialty bodies at the local, regional, and national levels, including participation in the peer-review process for professional journals.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Holds a PhD in Nursing or a health-related field. *Will consider an all but dissertation PhD candidate with degree conferral prior to faculty appointment.
    • An emerging body of research that aligns with a PhD dissertation or previous work experience.
    • Current nursing license, without restriction, to practice nursing, and eligibility for RN licensure in Missouri

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior experience or active training in submitting proposals to federal funding agencies (e.g., NIH/NINR, HRSA, CDC) or foundations.
    • Demonstrated commitment to advancing health for all people and the development of leaders from varied backgrounds.
    • Experience with teaching across programs (undergraduate and graduate) including in-person didactic and clinical lab as well as online education with strong technology skills.
    • A clearly articulated and focused trajectory of research demonstrating potential for long-term sustainability and intellectual independence as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or a demonstrated readiness or record of seeking competitive external grant funding.
