Assistant Project Manager (APM)

Location: Atlanta, GA or Chattanooga, TN
Type: Long-Term Contract Opportunity
Travel: Approximately 20 30%

Position Summary
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) will support Project Managers on a variety of projects ranging in size and complexity and may independently manage smaller, less complex projects. This role serves as a key coordinator and project liaison among clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure project objectives are achieved on schedule and within budget.

The APM is responsible for maintaining project documentation, managing databases, and coordinating project activities and communications throughout the project lifecycle for design-only and EPC projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Project Managers in executing projects from initiation through closeout, including design-only and EPC projects.
  • Act as a project liaison to clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain project document control systems and manage project databases.
  • Assist with the development of Request for Proposal (RFP) packages, bid evaluations, contractor selection, and detailed scopes of work.
  • Manage contractor submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), Supplemental Design Instructions (SDIs), and site drawing logs.
  • Verify contractor compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and material management programs.
  • Execute contract administration activities including:
    • Change order management and field change directives
    • Invoice review and approval
    • Schedule monitoring and coordination
  • Support project controls activities including:
    • Cost reporting and forecasting
    • Scheduling support
    • Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) development
    • Project setup and closeout within accounting systems
    • Field progress tracking
  • Assist with preparation of internal and external reports, including:
    • Project budgets
    • Cost and cash flow forecasts
    • Project status updates for stakeholders
  • Participate in internal and external project risk reviews and coordinate with the Legal Department as needed.
  • Support contract and project closeout documentation activities.
  • Adhere to company safety programs, training requirements, and policies, while promoting and supporting the Safety & Health performance of project team members and subcontractors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of applicable professional experience (internship experience does not count toward required years).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding work environment, including working overtime on short notice when required.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with Owners, Contractors, Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers in a multi-disciplinary project team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Primavera Contract Manager or similar change management software.
