Shape the spans that move communities
Step into a key support role on complex bridge and highway builds. As an Assistant Project Manager focused on bridge and heavy civil work, you’ll partner with senior leadership to plan, coordinate, and drive execution from early pre-construction through final closeout—keeping scope, schedule, budget, safety, and quality aligned every step of the way.
A week in the life
On Monday, you’re aligning the baseline schedule and cost controls; midweek you’re facilitating subcontractor coordination and reviewing change orders; by Friday you’re closing out progress updates for VDOT/public agency partners and walking the site to verify compliance with environmental and safety requirements.
What you’ll do
- Support and drive bridge and heavy civil project delivery from pre-construction through closeout.
- Build, maintain, and update integrated schedules and budgets; apply rigorous cost control procedures.
- Coordinate seamlessly with field teams, subcontractors, and clients to keep work flowing.
- Administer contracts, document changes, and manage change orders accurately and promptly.
- Champion safety and environmental stewardship on every task and at every stage.
- Provide clear direction to field personnel and trade partners to achieve quality outcomes.
- Engage with VDOT and other public agencies to maintain alignment with specifications and standards.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (preferred).
- 5–10+ years of experience supporting or managing heavy civil and bridge projects.
- Documented success delivering VDOT or other DOT infrastructure work.
- Fluency with construction contracts (VDOT specifications preferred) and project controls.
- Scheduling expertise using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project; proficiency with cost tracking tools.
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership capabilities.
