We are looking to add new talent to our growing team. We are currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager Environmental Scientist to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment.

The primary role for this position will be to assist projects with State Chapter 343 and Federal NEPA requirements and permitting needs under various County, State, and Federal regulations. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing local team and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients.

This is a full-time position located in our Honolulu, HI or Makawao, HI office.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

In this position you will:

  • Lead and oversee project environmental data reduction, summarization, visualization tasks, feasibility studies, permitting tasks, and environmental planning studies.
  • Split time among completing technical tasks such as field assignments, reporting, and analysis of task management and project management support activities.
  • Leverage understanding of technical scopes of work for assigned work and their alignment with overall project objectives to deliver quality assignments.
  • Demonstrate and apply technical competence, knowledge of codes and regulations, and professional standards of practice to assigned tasks.
  • Collaborate closely with project teams, field teams, and health and safety personnel to address client goals and objectives, ensuring technical accuracy, quality, budget, schedule, and safety requirements are met.
  • Assist the project management team throughout the project lifecycle, including cost estimating, scheduling, subcontracting, resource allocation, project planning, task delegation, and financial management.
  • Prepare and/or review written communications and technical deliverables.
  • Engage in internal and external communications with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Coach, mentor, and direct junior staff to ensure high-quality execution of project tasks, including field activities and preparation of technical reports and deliverables, while facilitating knowledge transfer for team development.
  • Plan and manage field investigation programs, including pre-design of field data and/or pilot testing data collection programs associated with environmental projects.
  • Plan all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate the companys foundational safety behaviors.

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

Minimum Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 8 years of related NR environmental consulting experience.
  • Experience with Hawaii HRS Chapter 343 and/or Federal NEPA processes, including Federal Clean Water Act permitting and Endangered Species Act consultations.
  • Experience with consultation and permitting with State and County agencies in Hawaii.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer literacy skills, including the use of the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Project) and SharePoint, and the ability to learn various software needed to support financial management, diverse project needs, and client requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of GIS software and ability to read and extract information from construction plans and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory frameworks pertinent to the work.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse unstable/sloping sites and landscapes, work outside in a range of weather conditions, and have the stamina for moderate physical activity for the majority of field working hours.
  • Able to travel to work locations that may require overnight stays.

Preferred Skills:

  • Masters degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Some project management or task management experience.
  • Wetland and stream delineation certifications.
  • Environmental field and sampling experience.

The salary range for this position in Honolulu, HI and Makawao, HI is $95,000 - $115,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to assess competitiveness with the market.
