    Job Description

    The Assistant Project Manager supports the successful delivery of retail construction projects from award through closeout. Working closely with Project Managers, field superintendents, subcontractors, and internal support teams, this role helps coordinate project documentation, schedules, costs, procurement, communication, and day-to-day project needs.

    The APM plays an important role in keeping projects organized, addressing issues promptly, and ensuring work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to Immel's quality standards.

    What Youll Do

    Project Administration & Documentation

    Assist with project startup activities and project setup. Maintain accurate project files and documentation throughout the project lifecycle. Coordinate project correspondence, meeting minutes, and project logs. Maintain and track submittal, RFI, change order, and closeout logs. Assist with preparation and execution of subcontracts, purchase orders, and owner contract documents. Ensure project records are complete, organized, and accessible.

    Project Coordination

    Coordinate communication among project team members, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and clients. Participate in project meetings and document action items and follow-up activities. Support project managers and superintendents in resolving day-to-day project issues. Assist in identifying potential project risks and escalating concerns appropriately. Foster positive working relationships with internal and external project stakeholders.

    Scheduling & Procurement

    Assist with the development and maintenance of project schedules. Coordinate procurement activities and monitor long lead-time items. Track submittal and shop drawing status to support timely project execution. Work with project teams to identify and communicate schedule impacts. Support weekly and short-term planning efforts with project stakeholders.

    Financial & Cost Management Support

    Assist with project cost tracking and budget monitoring. Support project managers in maintaining accurate financial records and forecasts. Assist with change order preparation, tracking, and documentation. Support monthly owner pay applications and subcontractor payment processing. Maintain cost-related project documentation and reporting.

    Field Operations Support

    Conduct periodic jobsite visits to gain project understanding and support project coordination efforts. Partner with field superintendents to monitor project progress and identify project needs. Support project teams in maintaining compliance with contract documents and project requirements. Assist in documenting field observations and project status updates. Promote a safe and productive jobsite environment.

    Quality Control & Closeout

    Support quality control efforts throughout project execution. Assist with punch list development, tracking, and completion. Coordinate collection of warranties, operation and maintenance manuals, and closeout documentation. Support project turnover activities and final project completion requirements. Assist with warranty administration as needed.

    Technology & Systems

    Maintain project information within company and client-required software platforms. Utilize Procore and other project management tools to support project documentation and communication. Ensure project information is current, accurate, and properly documented within required systems.

    Professional Development

    Continuously develop construction knowledge, project management skills, and industry best practices. Participate in training, mentoring, and development opportunities. Demonstrate a willingness to assume increased project responsibilities over time.

    Other Duties

    Perform all other duties as assigned.

    What Were Looking For

    Education & Experience

    Associates or Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Architecture, Business, or related field preferred. Equivalent construction experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. OSHA 30 certification preferred or willingness to obtain within the first six months of employment. 1-5 years of experience in construction project coordination, project engineering, estimating, field supervision, or related construction roles preferred. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. Understanding of basic construction processes and project delivery methods. Familiarity with construction scheduling, procurement, and contract administration concepts. Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams. Experience with Procore preferred.

    Physical Requirements & Work Environment

    Work will primarily be performed from the office and may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and computer use. Regular travel as a driver or passenger to project sites, client meetings, and other business-related locations is required. Frequent visits to active construction sites are required. Exposure to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, dust, vibration, and elevated noise levels may occur. Must be able to safely navigate active construction environments. Employees are required to wear and utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all company safety policies and procedures while performing job duties. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of project materials and equipment may be required.
