Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Manage all maintenance responsibilities inside the 250-acres of an urban state park.
  • Train, supervise, and motivate maintenance staff.
  • Assist in the interviewing and hiring of maintenance staff.
  • Work hands-on with ground staff to meet and exceed the parks standards.
  • Prepare staff work schedules.
  • Be on call 24/7 for any and all emergencies or important issues relating to White River State Park.
  • Maintain grounds, equipment, and buildings within the park at a very high-level year-round.
  • Assist Property Manager to maintain accurate records and work within the parks budget.
  • Accomplish projects with little supervision.
  • Be proud of the environment you control through hard work, detail orientation, and customer service.

The incumbent may perform long hours of physical labor and be outdoors for considerable periods of time in all kinds of weather. Part of the incumbent's work is performed in the park office, considerable time is spent supervising and monitoring the various park operations

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What Youll Need for Success:

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

  • Establish and maintain a harmonious relationship with the general public, event representatives, contractors, park tenants, and maintenance staff.
  • Supervise and maintain a clean, well operated recreational facility.
  • Plan, assign, and supervise the work for all park maintenance staff.
  • Develop work programs and provide training for unique or special jobs as needed.
  • Maintain and perform repair work on all mechanical facilities on the property.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Assist Property Manager to prepare operating budget requests.
  • Ensure all safety standards and precautions are followed by all park employees.
  • Operate various types of equipment on property.
  • Maintain and repair park-owned equipment.
  • Work closely with Property Manager and Event Coordinator to ensure all park-related events run smoothly.
  • Monitor event time lines to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Provide pre- and post-event evaluations.
  • Anticipate event needs, discern work priorities and able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate park-related events.
  • Manage multiple projects and work assignments.
  • Possess fantastic customer service ethic and high expectations for quality.
  • Possess experience in coordinating special events would be helpful.

A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 3 years of experience in maintenance, construction, or related fields including one (1) year of supervisory experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.

This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
