DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists in directing and managing Public Works wastewater maintenance and repairs, and associated personnel. Assists in enacting policy; develops, maintains, and interprets Branch and Departmental policies. Manages personnel and resources in developing and implementing in-house electrical projects, support and assistance. Recommends electrical equipment, operating budget. Reviews electrical plans, facilities and oversees contract work. Coordinates with CenterPoint and other energy providers. Facilitates work between mechanical, data, engineering, administration, and operations groups. Serves as member committees and task forces for project-planning. Establishes goals and evaluates section performance. Develops and evaluates subordinates. Maintains current knowledge of technology and legislative changes which affect specific activities and initiates actions made necessary by such changes. Implements and monitors technical and safety training. Assists annually in fiscal year budget preparation.
WORKING CONDITIONS
A portion of these duties will involve the ability to be detailed, speak and write effectively. There are no major sources of discomfort. Requires the ability to make simple gross motor responses within large tolerances. The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works position at the Tier 1 Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires the ability and knowledge for analysis and interpretation of procedures, policies and practices attainable through specific education and/or training programs in a specialty or technical field. Requires advanced vocational or electronic skills or a basic knowledge of a professional field. An Associates degree or certification/licensing in a technical specialty program of over 18 months and up to 3 years duration are characteristic of this level.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six years of experience closely related to meter operations and project management.
Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas drivers license and compliance with the City of Houstons policy on driving.
PREFERENCES
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
