Description Summary

The Assistant Rodeo Coach is responsible for assisting the head men's and women's rodeo coach in all aspects of coaching, specifically in the areas of rough stock events. Involving recruiting, retaining members, and overall in-season/off-season strategies/programs.

The Assistant Men's and Women's Rodeo Coach will also serve in a second college assignment of one of the following: Athletic Coordinator, Housing Coordinator, Student Development Assistant, or Intramural and Student Life and Activities Coordinator. The employment in the above position is contingent upon the Assistant Coach being employed in both assigned positions.

Examples of Duties

Constant (67-100%)

  • Assist the head coach in managing and directing the men's and women's rodeo program.
  • Assist the head men's and women's rodeo coach with all aspects of the team including rough stock practice, training, competing, and scheduling.
  • Assist with academic progress of students athletes.
  • Assists with recruiting. Including calling, traveling to high schools, connections through social media of prospective student athlete.
  • Attend all regional rodeos and CNFR (if qualify).
  • Hold scheduled practices for the rough stock athletes.
  • Organize annual Iowa Central Community College NIRA approved sanctioned Rodeo.
  • Assist in hauling livestock.

Frequent (34-66%)

  • Provide maintenance to rodeo equipment and buildings.
  • Commits to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the College, NIRA with the utmost integrity.
  • Travel outside of Iowa Central service area for recruitment opportunities.
  • Responsible for distribution and accumulation of grades for team, as well as grade checks.
  • Implementing off season workouts for all athletes.

Occasional (10-33%)

  • Assist head coach with fundraising projects.
  • Attend meetings as necessary.
  • Assist in the promotion and support of the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  1. Be able and willing to represent Iowa Central Community College in a positive manner with prospective, former, and current students, clients, suppliers, and the community we serve.

  2. Help develop a men's and women's Rodeo program all can be proud of.

  3. Help build strong relations with community coaches and players.

  4. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, logically, and coherently, orally and in writing.

  5. Ability to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruption.

  6. Must be able to get along with diverse personalities.

  7. Keep accurate office hours.

Qualifications

Associate's degree required, Bachelor's preferred.

  • Knowledge and/or experience in post-high school rodeo particularly in rough stock events required.
  • Coaching experience at the collegiate level preferred.
  • Must hold and maintain throughout duration of employment a current Class C Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement or willingness to complete prior to athletic season.
