Salary Range: $35,600 - $48,000

Position Summary:

The Assistant Scientists in the College of Science & Technology's Biology division will be in the Chen Lab (ycdavidchen.com) to support research programs investigating how developing neurons acquire their identities and form precise connections during brain development. The lab uses Drosophila melanogaster (fruit flies) as a model to study sensory circuit formation, applying genetic, molecular, and imaging-based approaches to uncover principles of neuronal wiring. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor''s degree in biology, neuroscience, genetics, or a related STEM field and at least 2 years of directly related laboratory research experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of students and colleagues.
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment.
  • Familiarity with basic computer software (e.g. Office, Adobe Acrobat)

Preferred:

  • Experience in data collection and analysis, experimental design and analysis.
  • Drosophila genetics and husbandry
  • Confocal or fluorescence microscopy
  • CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing
  • Single-cell genomic analysis
  • Laboratory compliance experience or inventory management
  • Experience training undergraduate students or other lab members
