OVERVIEW:

JOB SUMMARY:

Lincoln University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Sociology. The successful candidate will be an engaging teacher of undergraduate students and an active scholar with a developing research and publication agenda. Candidates should demonstrate thoughtful intellectual engagement with the discipline of Sociology and a commitment to student success.

The teaching load is five courses per academic year and includes in-person instruction in courses such as Research Methods, Sociological Theory, Social Statistics, and upper-level Sociology electives. Areas of specialization are open, though candidates with interests that complement existing departmental offerings are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. or terminal degree by the date of appointment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will:

• Teach undergraduate Sociology courses using engaging, student-centered pedagogy and current disciplinary knowledge.
• Teach a standard load of five in-person courses per academic year, including general education and upper-level Sociology courses.
• Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including meetings, curriculum development, assessment activities, and university initiatives.
• Maintain an active research and professional engagement agenda consistent with expectations for tenure and promotion.
• Demonstrate a commitment to effective teaching and student engagement in a diverse learning environment.

EDUCATION:

• A Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field by the time of appointment. ABDs will be considered if the Ph.D. is completed by the time of hire.

EXPERIENCE:

• Evidence of undergraduate teaching experience
• Active research and professional engagement agenda
• Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively teach, mentor, and support students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds
• Experience in course design, curriculum development, and assessment of student learning outcomes
• Experience utilizing LMS platforms such as Canvas

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a university campus environment. All classes are currently taught in-person and faculty are required to be present on campus to teach their courses. The employee is subject to environmental conditions and protection from weather conditions.
