JOB SUMMARY
This class typically provides prosecution of criminal cases for Dorchester County, including trial preparation, plea agreements, hearings, court filings and jury trials; prepares necessary reports; and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens.
Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists the Solicitor and Deputy Solicitors planning, coordinating, and supervising all administrative and legal activities of the Solicitor's Office, ensuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
Maintains and manages individual caseloads in a timely and effective manner.
Prosecutes cases in all applicable County Courts.
Prepares cases for plea or trial.
Presents and argues prepared cases in court as assigned.
Performs extensive legal research.
Examines legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuits.
Recommends criminal prosecutions or civil penalties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school.
Current South Carolina Bar Admission and Certification.
One (1) year of litigation or another trial-based experience.
Additional Requirements
Special Qualifications:
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license for South Carolina with a safe driving record.
Must possess Notary Certification.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed dealing with crisis situations that require making major decisions involving people, resources, and property.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the "core" work hours of 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Employees must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays during emergencies or as requested.
