The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach will support the overall mission of FMU Athletics by assisting with the development and implementation of sports performance programs for assigned varsity teams. The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach will work directly under the supervision of the Director of Sports Performance and will play a key role in the day-to-day delivery of training programs, supervision of student-athletes, and maintenance of a safe and effective training environment.
This is a hands-on, student-centered role that requires strong coaching ability, enthusiasm for athletic performance, and a commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in the design, implementation, and supervision of strength and conditioning programs for assigned sports.
- Conduct daily training sessions as directed by the Director of Sports Performance.
- Supervise weight room activities to ensure proper technique, effort, and safety.
- Implement sport-specific programs for in-season, off-season, preseason, and postseason training cycles.
- Monitor student-athlete progress and provide feedback to the Director of Sports Performance.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Sports Performance to execute departmental training plans.
- Coordinate with athletic training staff on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and return-to-play protocols.
- Communicate effectively with sport coaches regarding team needs and training objectives.
- Support student-athlete development through positive mentorship and encouragement.
- Assist with daily operations of the weight room and performance facilities.
- Help manage equipment inventory, maintenance, and organization.
- Enforce facility policies and safety procedures.
- Assist with scheduling, record keeping, and performance tracking.
- Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and special events as assigned.
- Motivate and inspire student-athletes to achieve performance goals.
- Promote discipline, accountability, and professionalism within the training environment.
- Support the academic, athletic, and personal growth of student-athletes.
- Ensure that all activities align with FMU, NAIA, and conference rules and regulations.
- The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.
Sport Oversight Assignments:
The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach will serve as the primary performance coach for the following sports:
- Women's Volleyball
- Men's and Women's Soccer
- Softball
- Track & Field
- Either Men's or Women's Basketball (assignment based on departmental needs)

- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods (4+ hours per day).
- Moderate physical activity required, including movement of training equipment.
- May be exposed to environmental factors such as noise, temperature variations, and physical exertion.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, or related field.
- Minimum of one (1) year of collegiate strength and conditioning experience (internship or graduate assistant experience acceptable).
- Nationally recognized certification such as CSCS or SCCC (or ability to obtain within first year of employment).
- Current CPR and AED certification required.
- Basic knowledge of strength training methodologies and performance programming.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
