Assistant Superintendent
This position reports to the Director of Operations
Job Summary:
The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Superintendent to manage construction sites. The
Assistant Superintendent is responsible for helping lead, manage and monitor the successful execution of
projects on time, within budget and safely with oversight of carpenters, trades and subcontractors on
construction/renovation projects. Some of their key responsibilities include scheduling, supervising
workers, and meeting with clients.
Essential Responsibilities:
? Ensure project safety compliance.
? Ensure safety, compliance, and quality regulations are strictly followed.
? Directly supervise crews for specific tasks and roles.
? Manage job site clean-up and housekeeping with subcontractors.
? Must be able to move and lift weights up to 50 pounds, able to climb ladders, scaffolding, etc.
(activities typically required in construction work)
? Possess physical requirements including average or better sight and hearing, ability to stand,
kneel or crouch in awkward or uncomfortable positions, possibly outdoors or in unheated/un
cooled areas, indoors, for long periods of time.
? Possess a valid drivers license.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
? Communicate with field staff daily to ensure that project
schedules are met.
? Communicate clearly and professionally with owner, design team, subcontractors, and local
building officials.
? Assist Superintendent with all aspects of daily onsite activities.
? Assist Superintendent with subcontractors, suppliers, temp labor, and employees.
? Mentor carpenters and laborers.
? Helps drive culture through the organization.
Duties/Responsibilities:
? Study and interpret construction documents to determine needs and plan of action.
? Prepare and/or assist in the generation of baseline schedules and weekly updates.
? Review all incoming materials to the site. Ensure all materials meet project specifications and
approved submittals.
? Learn IBC codes for NH and MA.
? Communicate with Superintendent any deviations from plans, specifications and/or
subcontracts on site.
? Assist Superintendent with coordinating inspections with local building officials and any 3rd party
project required inspections.
? Assist Superintendent with inspection of work to ensure that quality standards are met.?
Create daily field reports including manpower, visitors, daily activity, and weather.
? Assist Superintendent with tracking field expenditures and communicate with Project Manager
and Accounting.
? Attend weekly meetings with subcontractors and client team as required.
? Ensure quality control and inspect site daily for safety compliance.

? General knowledge of construction methods, scheduling, and blueprint reading.

? Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

? Proficient with Microsoft Office, MS Project, Procore, Excel, or related software.
Education and Experience:
? Associate degree in Construction Management or related field, or 2 - 4 years experience in a
related role preferred.
? OSHA 30 Certification.
? CPR/First Aid Certified.
? Completion of ABC Superintendent Certification Course
? Massachusetts Superintendents license helpful but not necessary.
? Previous superintendent experience of 1 year or more
Additional Experience:
? Previous Superintendent or related experience (Project Manager, Field Supervisor, etc.) of 1
year or more will satisfy seniority and individual experience requirements to allow employee to
be classified at the higher-level salaried employee (exempt).
o This Asst. Super position will have increased autonomy and will require more
independent judgment and discretion.
o This position will perform their job at a higher level and with increased responsibilities.
o This position will require more independence and less day-to-day supervision.
