This role is ideal for a hands-on construction professional who is ready to take the next step in field leadership while developing the skills and experience needed to grow into a Superintendent role.What You'll DoSupport Field OperationsAssist the Superintendent with day-to-day jobsite operations with a focus on safety, quality, productivity, and scheduleHelp coordinate field crews, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and other project resourcesSupport project activities from startup through closeout, including sequencing and field coordinationAssist with short-term planning and maintaining project schedules and milestonesCoordinate daily activities with Project Managers, Foremen, subcontractors, and other tradesParticipate in jobsite meetings with general contractors, clients, and project partnersIdentify potential field challenges and communicate issues before they impact the projectDrive Safety & QualityPromote and enforce VMG safety policies, OSHA requirements, and project-specific safety proceduresConduct routine jobsite safety inspections and help identify potential hazardsAddress and report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near missesHelp ensure installations meet project drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and VMG quality standardsMonitor field workmanship and support inspections and quality-control activitiesMaintain accountability for company tools, equipment, materials, and vehiclesKeep Projects MovingAssist with manpower planning, material coordination, and resource allocationMonitor daily progress and help ensure work remains aligned with project schedulesSupport coordination of material and equipment deliveries to prevent delaysTrack field activities, subcontractor work, and project-related informationHelp identify scheduling conflicts, material needs, and other issues that could impact productivityWork closely with the Superintendent and project team to resolve field challenges efficientlyManage Planning & DocumentationComplete and maintain accurate daily reports, timesheets, job logs, and other required documentationReview drawings, specifications, schedules, and project requirementsMaintain organized and accurate project documentationAssist with tracking costs, invoices, subcontractor activities, and project progressSupport project closeout documentation and coordinationCommunicate jobsite updates and project needs clearly to the Superintendent and Project Management teamSupport & Develop the TeamAssist with leading and coordinating field crews and subcontractorsHelp communicate expectations for safety, productivity, quality, and professionalismProvide guidance and support to Foremen, Mechanics, Helpers, and Apprentices as neededPromote accountability, teamwork, and strong communication across the jobsiteLead by example and help maintain a respectful, results-driven work environmentContinue developing the leadership and technical skills needed to advance into a Superintendent roleWhat You Bring2+ years of experience in commercial constructionCommercial HVAC, Plumbing, Mechanical, or MEP experience strongly preferredExperience supporting field crews and day-to-day jobsite operationsUnderstanding of construction scheduling, sequencing, manpower planning, and field coordinationAbility to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documentsStrong communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environmentWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office and construction/project management technologyOSHA 30 preferred or willingness to obtainValid driver's license and reliable transportationPreferred ExperienceExperience working on large commercial mechanical construction projectsHands-on experience with HVAC, plumbing, piping, or related mechanical systemsPrevious experience as a Foreman, Lead Mechanic, Project Engineer, or similar construction roleExperience coordinating field activities with Superintendents, Project Managers, general contractors, subcontractors, and other tradesInterest in developing into a Superintendent or other field leadership positionWhat We OfferCompetitive compensation based on experienceMedical, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with company matchPaid time off and company holidaysOngoing training and professional development opportunitiesOpportunities to advance into Superintendent and other field leadership rolesThe opportunity to work on challenging commercial mechanical projectsA collaborative, team-oriented environment where your experience and leadership make an impactWhy VMG?At VMG, we believe strong field leadership is essential to delivering safe, high-quality projects and building successful teams.As an Assistant Superintendent, you'll work alongside experienced construction leaders while gaining hands-on experience managing field operations, coordinating teams, solving jobsite challenges, and driving projects forward.
