Calusa Country Club, located in Bradenton, FL, is pleased to announce an excellent career opportunity for a Full-Time Assistant Superintendent! We are seeking a motivated individual who is interested in contributing to a positive experience for our members and guests while continuing to grow their knowledge of golf club operations. As an associate of Troon, you will contribute to a global leader in golf and community management.

General Purpose
Responsible for managing all agronomic procedures for our 12-hole course. The candidate will report directly to the Director of Agronomy and work closely with other assistants and equipment managers. The candidate will manage a staff of 14 people which includes a 2nd assistant and a chemical technician.
 
Essential Duties
  • Work with the Superintendent to ensure that the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans are maintained and followed
  • Supervise and assist maintenance staff in daily duties
  • Assist in the planning, organizing, and direction of the maintenance and construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers
  • Supervise the planting and cultural practices involved in growing various turf grasses, trees, and ornamental plants
  • Ensure that construction equipment is properly maintained
  • Assist in the procurement of supplies and materials and ensure costs remain within budgetary limitations
  • Keep records of annual maintenance activities and costs and assist with the preparation of required reports
  • Follow sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible
  • Reconcile and provide timely coding of all invoices, payroll, and other required documents
  • Coordinate snow removal (depending upon facility location)
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed including compliance with government regulations
  • Ensure associates obtain proper licenses needed to perform job tasks safely and within city, state, and federal regulations; address all real or perceived environmental concerns directly
  • Manage department members that may include, but are not limited to: Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician
  • Ensure that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate; develop ongoing training programs
  • Monitor business volume forecast and plan accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs, and other expenses
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Incorporate safe work practices in job performance
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's or associate's degree from a two or four-year college or technical school; three to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience (degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, or plant/soil science)
Physical Demands
Regularly stands, walks, and sits. Regularly uses hands, reaches with arms and hands, and talks or hears. Occasionally climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, tastes, or smells. Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
 
Work Environment
Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, fumes, and/or airborne particles. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions. Noise level is moderate.

  • Valid driver's license required
  • Pesticide Application License required

  • Ability to read and speak English is required in order to perform the duties of the job (e.g. associates are required to communicate with English-speaking customers or co-workers, and equipment manuals are in English)
