Summary: The Assistant Superintendent supports field operations on commercial and/or residential construction projects across the United States. The Assistant Superintendent works closely with the Superintendent to coordinate daily site activities, ensure safety and quality standards, and help manage subcontractors and self-performing crews.

Travel: 90100% nationwide travel required.

Project Types: Retail, restaurant (QSR), grocery, fuel/convenience store, and federal construction projects including ground-up builds, remodels, and structural concrete work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Field Coordination

  • Assist in managing daily job site operations, ensuring work is performed according to plans, specifications, and schedule.
  • Support scheduling and coordination of subcontractors, suppliers, and self-perform crews.
  • Help with site layout, material deliveries, and equipment logistics.

Quality Control

  • Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to quality standards and design specifications.
  • Perform routine inspections to verify proper installation methods and workmanship.
  • Document deficiencies and work with the Superintendent to implement corrective actions.

Safety Management

  • Enforce company safety policies and OSHA standards on site.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
  • Monitor site housekeeping and ensure safe work practices are followed.

Progress Reporting

  • Track and report daily work activities, crew sizes, and equipment usage.
  • Maintain photo documentation and assist with daily field logs.
  • Provide input to the Superintendent for project updates and progress meetings.

Subcontractor Oversight

  • Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure work aligns with the schedule and scope of work.
  • Communicate field issues or delays to the Superintendent and help resolve conflicts.
  • Assist in reviewing and verifying completion of subcontractor punch list items.

Site Documentation

  • Maintain updated drawings, RFIs, and submittals on site for field reference.
  • Assist in preparing look-ahead schedules and coordination plans.
  • Ensure site signage, access control, and compliance documentation is current.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.
  • 35 years of construction experience with a general contractor.
  • Familiarity with construction documents, methods, and best practices.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, and construction schedules.

Pay & Benefits:

The anticipated compensation range for the position is $64,000 to $80,000, is based on a full-time schedule, market and business conditions, and is commensurate on individual education, qualifications, and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurances, flexible paid time off, paid holidays, sick time, and a matching 401K plan.

Work Conditions & Travel:

This is an on-site role at the location of the project(s) and requires 90-100% travel nationwide. Multi-shift work may be required to accomplish work in active retail locations to meet aggressive schedules.
