ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)

  • Acts as lead worker and assistant supervisor in coordinating and training assigned crew on equipment and materials usage, to prepare, finish, replace, and construct concrete. Operates various types of concrete maintenance and construction equipment. Supervises crews operating vehicles and equipment.

  • Prepares estimates and orders for replacing, preparing, finishing, and constructing concrete. Works with inventory, supplies, and equipment relating to concrete work projects.

  • Initiates work and makes repairs to fix potholes and other roadway defects as needed.

  • Interprets construction blueprints and designs and fabricates materials for new construction and repair. Sets and checks grades.

  • Supervises and assigns daily work to employees. Recommends overtime as needed.

  • Assists Supervisors in orientation and training of new employees. Informs and enforces County/Department policies and code of ethics. Initiates disciplinary actions as needed.

  • Serves as on-site safety supervisor. Supervises employee use of PPE and other safety equipment.

  • Assists with plowing and sanding during snow removal operations.

  • Installs and maintains culverts and other drainage structures. Repairs potholes in concrete road surfaces.

  • Responds to complaints from citizens and assists in resolving those complaints.

  • Assists in prioritizing and assigning concrete construction projects. Leads maintenance activities as part of a larger operation as an on-site supervisor or independently leads district operations in the absence of the District Supervisor.

  • Leads the mobilization and demobilization of supplies, equipment, and crews in job site set up and work completion in accordance with safety, quality, and performance standards and procedures. Ensures the close-out of work orders and service requests.

  • Collaborates with Supervisors and the Director on the planning of individual tasks associated with crew assignments, including the development of temporary traffic control plans.

  • Helps to ensure good customer service. Collaborates with Supervisors to respond to customer service requests. Required to model good customer service and adherence to the code of conduct.

  • Ensures all work meets departmental expectations. Ensures compliance with project rules, procedures, applicable laws and regulations. Supports department vision, mission, goals, objectives, policy and procedures.

  • Provides training on County policies and procedures. Helps to ensure safe operations by monitoring adherence to safety rules and regulations.

  • Required to be available during snow removal, non-emergency, and emergency management situations.

  • Reports any policy issues or complaints that arise to the District Supervisor or Director.

  • Required to complete at least two external training sessions or classes per year to continually develop new techniques and procedures for road maintenance and construction activities.

  • Sets expectations for each job regarding quality and efficiencies.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Report any policy issues or complaints that arise to the District Supervisor or Director.

  • Assists with the hiring process in the interview and selection of new employees.

  • Monitors employee break/lunch time and duration. Monitors employee's use of phones, computers, electronic devices and other county equipment.

  • Demonstrates and promotes professional appearance, personal conduct, behavior.

  • Assists in the maintenance and installation of traffic control devices and work zone safety.

  • Assists supervisor with annual performance evaluation reviews.

  • Assists supervisor with timecards and input of time tracking on the computer.

  • Performs minor maintenance on vehicles and/or equipment.

  • Performs equipment operator duties when not assigned to specific concrete project work.

  • Occasionally coordinates projects and inspects the work of contractors.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
