    About this Position

    Looking for a motivated, skilled Assistant Supervisor to join the Facilities Management FSS-Signs department on the Oklahoma State University campus!

    The candidate will assist the Facilities Support Services Manager and Supervisor with all responsibilities for the sign shop. Supervise and perform visual communication and signage needs for the campus. They will be responsible for the completion of tasks and projects related to the systematic inspection, detection, and correction of signage issues either before they occur or before they develop into major defects. Assist the Manager and Supervisor with scheduling tasks, assigning technicians to tasks, and performing tasks, including the replacement of signs and banners, along with preventive and predictive maintenance scheduling on sign shop equipment such as computerized sign equipment and engravers. Ensure that requests for work are accurately translated to service requests and that the work is assessed, allocated, and accomplished appropriately.

    This position will be expected to interact with customers and other employees in a professional manner that enhances work effectiveness for the Facilities Support Services crew. Must be able to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management; therefore, deeming you as essential personnel, requiring you to come into work regardless of the weather conditions. Some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies. Emergencies frequently involve difficult working conditions. This may require work during non-business hours, which include evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and when the University is closed.

    This work involves regular exposure to uncomfortable and hazardous working conditions, both indoors and out, such as extreme temperatures, moving machinery, electrical sources, potential hazardous chemicals, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises. The position requires regular physical exertion to complete tasks. Must be able to occasionally move about or remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Occasionally ascends/descends heights to accomplish work. Occasional lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying of equipment and supplies.

    Due to communication expectations of the position, the incumbent will be required to maintain a personal cell phone and will be required to be continually available both during and after normal working hours. Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, safety glasses, etc.). These items are not for personal use.

    Required Qualifications

    • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
    • Two years post-secondary education in technical field with four years of prior successful work experience with three of those years working in a sign manufacture, carpentry, computer, graphic arts, or related organization.

      OR

      High School graduate/GED with six years of prior successful work experience with five of those years working in sign manufacture, carpentry, computer, graphic arts, or related experience.

      Post-secondary education may substitute for years of required experience.

    Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    Have before hire and maintain after hire a valid driver's license.

    Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Ability to manage and motivate people. Be able to frequently communicate with customers and employees who have inquiries on work and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Be proficient with Outlook, Word, and Excel for departmental record keeping, and good organizational ability.  Be proficient with Outlook, Word, and Excel for departmental record keeping, and good organizational ability.  Skills in evaluating the work of others to ensure adherence to stated standards. Skill in conflict resolution and resolving problems involving tenants and contractors regarding contract requirements. Considerable knowledge of methods, standards and equipment used within visual communications to manufacture and install signage. Experience in using computerized sign systems, engraving systems, sign making software, saws, drills, joiners, spray equipment, sanders, and man lifts. Ability to estimate costs and assess bids. Ability to communicate effectively and accurately. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with contractors and departmental representatives. Ability to work independently and be able to present a friendly and positive demeanor to all clients, including faculty, staff and the general public. Basic knowledge of building codes. Ability to become proficient in the use of "AiM" Computerized Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.

    • Six years of prior successful work experience in a university or commercial or industrial building maintenance / signage organization.
