POSITION TITLE: Assistant Teacher – Keys for Kids
DIVISION: Early Childhood Services
SUPERVISOR: Assistant Center Coordinator
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
PURPOSE:
Assist primary caregivers with the implementation of an inclusive and developmentally appropriate environment for all children in the assigned classroom. In the primary caregiver’s absence, assume responsibilitiesasdelegatedbythesupervisor.Provideeducationalservicestochildrensexweeksto five years.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
1. Ensurethesafetyofallchildren inanassignedgroupandmaintain sightandsound atall times.
2. Create a warm, clean, and accepting environment that is inclusive of all children’s needs. Provideawelcomingatmosphereforallfamilies,volunteers,communityrepresentatives,and staff.
3. Assist teachers with creating and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum. Ensurethatactivitiesarechildled,playbased,andmeetfidelityrequirements.Conductlesson plansaswrittenintheabsenceoftheleadteacher(s).Observeanddocumentevidenceofchild growth and development in order to contribute to assessments.
4. Abide by program philosophies on parent engagement and parent participation. Actively participateinparentengagementopportunities.Encouragefamiliestoengageinactivitiesoffered by the program that promote family well-being.
5. Appropriatelycommunicatewithfamiliesbothverballyandinwriting.Providefamilieswith resources and referrals to community agencies as needed. Shares all conversations with the child’s primary caregiver in a timely manner.
6. Modelappropriatelanguageandbehavior forchildren, volunteers, and families
7. Reportanyhealth,social,orcrisisneedsofthechild orfamilyto the child’sprimarycaregiver.
8. Attendallmeetingsandtrainingsasrequiredtomeetstateandfederalregulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS:
1. Mustbeable toholdandmove smallchildren weighing5-50 pounds.
2. Mustbeabletomoveandplaywithsmallchildrenindoorsandoutdoors,includingroutinetasks such as diaper changing and feeding.
3. Complywithregulatoryhealthrequirements,including:providingdocumentationofanannual physical within 30 days of hire and every five (5) years thereafter; and an annual TB test.
4. Displayanoverallcommitmenttotheagencyandprogram’smission,values,andvisionwhile maintain a positive, professional image.
5. Adheretoallplans,policies,andproceduresofBonaVistaProgramsandtheearlychildhood department.

7. Assistwithadditional dutieswhen directedbymanagement.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. MusthaveaCDA,an equivalentofaCDA(12credithoursinECE),orbeabletoobtainaCDA within two years of employment.
2. Mustbeat least21years ofagewhen workingwith infants.
3. MusthaveorbeabletoobtainCPRcertificationannuallyand FirstAidcertificationeverytwo years.
4. Generalknowledgeofchilddevelopment, nutrition,health, andsafetyis preferred.
5. Mustpossessgoodoralandwrittencommunicationskills.
6. Experienceworkingwithchildrenundertheageof3 yearsispreferred.
