Job Description

Boise State University's Department of Biological Sciences invites applicants for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor (non-tenure track) position. Although non-tenure track, the position offers salary and promotion opportunities similar to those of tenure-track faculty, including advancement to associate and full teaching professor . The primary teaching duties will include lower division biology courses, such as Introductory Biology I: Cell and Molecular Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Introductory Microbiology, or Introductory Biology II: Diversity of Life. The position may also include instruction of upper-division undergraduate courses such as Cell Biology or Molecular Biology lab. The workload assignment is approximately 80% teaching and 20% departmental service, which translates to the equivalent of four 3-credit classes each semester, with adjustments that take into account other workload factors such as class size. Teaching Faculty play a critical role in curriculum development. They manage laboratory courses and support the teaching of graduate student teaching assistants. They advance the University's mission of providing student-centered, quality education and are committed to the success of our students and the university.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A PhD in a field related to Biological Sciences, such as Genetics, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physiology, or General Biology.

Preferred qualifications:

  • An interest in developing and delivering undergraduate curriculum.

  • A commitment to monitoring and improving teaching and thoughtful course design using evidence-based practices.

  • A commitment to creating inclusive teaching environments where all students can succeed.

  • Prior teaching or mentorship experience in the biological sciences.

  • A description of how you would approach teaching a ~150 person 100-level Introductory Cell and Molecular Biology course

  • Transcripts (unofficial is OK) from all undergraduate and graduate coursework

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary of $65,000.

Our standard faculty contract is a 9-month contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. This is a yearly, renewable contract, unless noted that the position is temporary. More information about faculty contract and work days is available here.
