What Youll Do
Bismarck State College is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Assistant Teaching Professor of Surgical Technology to join our faculty. The successful candidate will support students by coordinating the clinical preceptor training components of the Surgical Technology program, instructing courses in the Surgical Technology Program as assigned by the Surgical Technology Program Director or Assistant Dean, in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Bismarck State College.
Additional Responsibilities include:
- Coordinates and oversees all clinical education experiences to ensure students meet program learning outcomes, clinical competencies, and accreditation requirements.
- Determines clinical site capacity, secures student placements, and maintains current affiliation agreements with clinical agencies.
- Serves as the liaison between the Surgical Technology Program and clinical affiliates to facilitate communication and resolve clinical education issues
- Ensures students complete all required clinical onboarding requirements, orientation, policies, and site-specific documentation.
- Assigns, schedules, and monitors student clinical rotations, including specialty assignments and call experiences, as applicable.
- Monitors student clinical progress, case requirements, evaluations, and documentation to ensure successful program completion and compliance with ARC/STSA accreditation standards.
- Coordinates certification examination preparation and facilitates examination scheduling with the NBSTSA and designated testing center.
- Maintains and updates the Clinical Program Handbook and other required clinical education documents.
- Prepares and maintains laboratory facilities, instructional equipment, instruments, supplies, and educational resources to support student learning.
- Develops, updates, and administers laboratory skills evaluations, rubrics, competency checklists, and instrument assessments.
- Instructs Surgical Technology courses using effective classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical teaching methods.
- Maintains course materials, syllabi, instructional resources, and assessment tools in accordance with college and accreditation standards.
- Assists with curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintains required professional credentials and participates in continuing education and professional development activities.
- Collaborates with program faculty, college administration, advisory committee members, and clinical partners to support program goals and student success.
- Supports innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement of program processes, instruction, and clinical education.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Surgical Technology Program Director and Assistant Dean.

Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or certificate in Surgical Technology from an education program accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency; and
- Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
- A NDBON UAP Registration (ND Board of Nursing Unlicensed Assistive Personnel Registration)
- Have a minimum of 3 years of documented experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past 5 years
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Good computer software skills - Microsoft Office, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Surgical Technology or related healthcare field
- Curriculum development, teaching and/or training experience

- Full-Time, special non-tenure-track position. Competitive salary based on directly related experience and education.
- 9 months: $46,460 - $58,037 (9-month Associates)
