Assistant United States Attorney (Civil) USAO Southern District of TexasThe U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas is among the largest and busiest in the nation, spanning 43 counties and 44,000 square miles and representing 8.3 million people from the Houston area to the Mexico border.As an AUSA, you will litigate a broad range of cases involving significant, complex issues on behalf of the United States in federal court. Working in the Civil Division, you will handle land condemnation matters and related cases involving the border with Mexico, immigration enforcement matters, issuing warrants, defending asylum and passport cases, and general civil litigation.Responsibilities Litigate federal civil cases involving complex issuesHandle land condemnation matters and related border casesEngage in immigration enforcement matters, issuing warrants, and defending asylum and passport casesTake general civil litigation matters to federal courtIncrease responsibilities as training and experience progressRequired Qualifications J.D. degreeActive member of the bar in any U.S. jurisdictionAt least 1 year post‑J.D. legal or other relevant experienceUnited States citizenshipPreferred Qualifications Strong academic credentialsSuperior legal research and writing skillsFast analytical ability to articulate critical case‑related issues accurately and preciselyHigh‑volume courtroom experience, including first‑chair jury trialsOutstanding organizational, time‑management, and interpersonal skillsAbility to work in a supportive and professional team environmentCommitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public serviceComputer proficiency and self‑sufficiency in preparing day‑to‑day correspondence and pleadingsPolitical Appointees (Current and Former) The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently or have been within the last 5 years a political Schedule A, Schedule C or Non‑Career SES employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the HR Office.
