Responsibilities will increase in complexity as training and experience progress.ResponsibilitiesRepresent the United States in civil cases, including but not limited to employment discrimination, tort law, immigration law, constitutional law, the Administrative Procedure Act, and FOIA. Defend U.S. interests, handle proceedings, prepare pleadings, conduct discovery, appear in court, and advise clients.RequirementsUnited States Citizen or National.Initial appointment conditioned upon satisfactory pre‑employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing; continued employment subject to favorable background investigation.Registered for Selective Service, if applicable.J.D. degree and active bar membership (any U.S. jurisdiction).Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof.QualificationsRequired qualifications: J.D. degree, active bar membership, and U.S. citizenship.Preferred qualifications: Direct experience litigating civil cases in federal courts and/or a federal judicial clerkship.EducationJ.D. degree required.Salary and BenefitsAssistant U.S. Attorney pay is administratively determined based on professional experience. Basic pay range: $65,563 to $171,487.
