Overview Employment with the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Criminal Division offers a unique and challenging experience for highly motivated attorneys. The role involves prosecuting a broad range of federal crimes and representing the United States in hearings, trials, and appeals. The position is located in San Jose, California.Responsibilities Prosecute federal crimes, including drug trafficking, smuggling, child exploitation, gang activity, violence, illegal immigration, national security, border security, elder abuse, cybercrime, theft of intellectual property, and financial crimes.Work with law enforcement agencies to investigate allegations of criminal conduct and research legal issues.Draught motions, motion responses, search warrants, and other litigation documents.Appear before grand juries and in court; perform all related litigation duties.Collaborate with other attorneys and staff to develop case strategies and manage complex investigations.Qualifications J.D. degree and active membership in good standing with the bar of any U.S. jurisdiction.At least three (3) years of experience as a licensed attorney (or equivalent post‑law school judicial clerkships) in federal, state, or local courts.United States citizenship is required.Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof.Registration with the Selective Service, if applicable.Preferred Qualifications Strong academic record and superior legal writing and research skills.Demonstrated analytical ability, good judgment, and courtroom skills.Commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service.Salary and Benefits Assistant United States Attorney pay is based on experience.
