Shenandoah University's Department of Occupational Therapy is accepting applications for a Visiting Faculty Role in the OTD Program. This is a full-time benefited position located at our Health Professions Building in Winchester, Virginia.

Position Responsibilities

As a full-time Visiting Faculty Member, you will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of occupational therapy leaders. This is a hybrid faculty position with regular on-campus responsibilities. Faculty are expected to be present for Tuesday classes and laboratories, as well as for faculty meetings, experiential learning activities, service responsibilities, student events, and other program needs that may occur on non-class days.

The Visiting Faculty Member will contribute to the didactic and practical preparation of doctoral-level occupational therapy students, ensuring all instructional delivery aligns seamlessly with ACOTE standards. Key ways you will make an impact:

  • Innovative Hybrid Instruction: Teach and coordinate assigned OTD courses, seamlessly blending asynchronous online modules with highly engaging, hands-on laboratory sessions on campus on Tuesdays.
  • Student Mentorship & Advising: Advise and mentor a diverse cohort of doctoral students, guiding their academic progression, professional development, and integration of program values, while mentoring capstones or scholarly work aligned with your unique expertise.
  • Collaborative Interprofessional Engagement: Foster a culture of belonging and actively participate in exciting interprofessional education (IPE) initiatives alongside other health professions programs across the University.
  • Active Community Participation: Contribute to the growth of our program by participating in faculty meetings, admissions, student events, and service initiatives that occur across the workweek.
  • Curriculum Excellence: Deliver and refine course content and assessments that align with assigned ACOTE standards, program learning outcomes, and current evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Accountable Practice: Uphold continuous program excellence by maintaining accurate student records and participating in programmatic assessment activities.

Our unique model integrates online coursework with regular in-person, hands-on learning sessions held weekly on our Winchester campus.

Required Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: An earned doctoral degree (e.g., OTD, PhD, EdD) awarded by an institution accredited by a USDE-recognized institutional accrediting agency
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist
  • Credentialing: Current National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification and eligibility for/possession of an active occupational therapy license in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Core Competencies: Evidence of effective communication, collaboration, professional responsibility, and commitment to student learning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior teaching experience at the post-baccalaureate level, particularly within a hybrid or online educational framework
  • Documented expertise in one or more of the following areas: pediatrics, neurological rehabilitation, or mental health
  • Active membership in the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
