As a member of NCAA Division I Patriot League and CAA the university must ensure compliance with the associations rules and regulations. This position is responsible for developing implementing and maintaining a comprehensive NCAA Division I Patriot League CAA Virginia State and institutional compliance program for W&M Athletics. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating implementing facilitating overseeing and evaluating all facets of the Athletics Compliance Program which includes but is not limited to eligibility and financial aid certification graduation data and academic progress reporting and monitoring and educating student-athletes coaches and administrators.
Job Description
Required Qualifications Masters degree.
Significant experience working in Athletic Compliance or institutional compliancepolicy development.
Significant knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations with a demonstrated ability to track legislative changes and interpretations of the rules and perform analysis of the application of rules as intended.
Demonstrates high level analytical skills and must be able to demonstrate a high level of expertise in applying the rules and interpretations.
Excellent oral written and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated success with public speaking.
Preferred Qualifications J.D.
Experience in athletic coaching or administration.
Several years experience in a compliance office at an NCAA Division I or Division II member institution conference office andor the NCAA National Office.
Conditions of Employment Manages prospective student-athlete admissions process including acting as liaison between coaching staff department and Admissions.
Compliance department employees must work under tight time constraints and to provide correct and complete information. Evening and weekend work outside of normal duty hours required during heavy periods mainly prior to each semester start.
This position requires the ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information particularly in dealing with a wide variety of populations e.g. faculty staff and students of varying levels of education and skills in communication.
This is a restricted position subject to the availability of funding.
This position requires adherence to all applicable NCAA conference and institutional rules and regulations.
Job Duties
60 - Compliance Policy Development and Department Oversight Be knowledgeable and current with all applicable NCAA conference and department rules and regulations.
Provide written updates and interpretations of current new and proposed NCAA and conference rules and regulations.
Research and respond to inquiries regarding rules and compliance interpretations.
Oversee and ensure departmental compliance with all NCAA conference and institutional rules and regulations governing recruiting amateurism awards and benefits playing and practice seasons and sports camps and clinics.
Maintain the compliance policy and procedures manual camps and clinics manual and the Student-Athlete Handbook.
Develop and implement systems and procedures to ensure compliance and tracking of all NCAA and conference rules i.e. recruiting financial aid limits playing season eligibility etc..
Maintains utilization and operation of the institutional compliance software system in an effort to ensure that all coaches staff and administrators are up-to-date on how to operate the systems and properly monitor functional usage to review officialunofficial visits CARA complimentary tickets recruiting activity playing and practice logs GIAs declaration of playing seasons roster management etc. Triages technical issues as necessary andor appropriate.
Oversee all Name Image and Likeness NIL compliance and processes inclusive of NIL Go and CAPS operating systems.
Athletic Department liaison with Financial Aid Registrar Admissions the NCAA Eligibility Center the Patriot League and the CAA Compliance Offices to ensure institutional compliance.
Manages prospective student-athlete admissions process including acting as liaison between coaching staffs department and Admissions.
Work closely to monitor sport financial aid limitations and department athletic scholarship budgets. Work closely with Admissions and Financial Aid offices in issuing athletic grants-in-aid agreements.
Provide information andor prepare reports for documentation submitted to the NCAA and conferences to include but not limited tosquad lists drug consent forms waivers NCAA violations appeals Revenue Distribution report Sport Sponsorship and Demographic report Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act report and APRgraduation rate reports.
Work in conjunction with the University President Director of Athletics Deputy Director of AthleticsSenior Woman Administrator Faculty Athletic Representative in the investigation andor reporting of alleged violations.
Work closely to monitor sport financial aid limitations and department athletic scholarship budgets. Work closely with Admissions and Financial Aid offices in issuing athletic grants-in-aid agreements.

10 - Continuing Eligibility Process Coordinates department academic eligibility processes and procedures coordinates academic eligibility process with the Academic Support Services office and reviews all continuing eligibility certifications.
Communicates any eligibility concerns with Academic Support Services student athlete and coaching staffs upon certification review.
Coordinates eligibility certification meetings with University Registrar and Faculty Athletic representative.
10 - Compliance Education & Programs Develop and coordinate pro-active rules education seminarsmaterials for student-athletes yearly coaches monthly and all athletic staff members monthly on NCAA and conference rules and regulations.
Develop educational materialspresentations for support departments Registrar Alumni Office Development Office Financial Aid and Residence Life on a yearly basis.
To participate in continuous training and development including attending the NCAA Regional Rules Seminar and conference compliance meetings.
20 - Leadership Staff Operations Supervise the Compliance and Academic Support Services staff including but not limited to interns and student workers.
Expectations are clear well communicated and relate to the goals and objectives of the department or unit.
Staff receive frequent constructive feedback including interim evaluations as appropriate.
Staff have the necessary knowledge skills and abilities to accomplish goals.
The requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation.
Performance issues are addressed and documented as they occur.
Serve on the Director of Athletics Cabinet.
Potential sport oversight of select sports.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
