General Description of the Position

The Facilities and Operations Manager is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of day-to-day operational functions for Delaware State University's intercollegiate athletics program. Reporting directly to the Deputy Athletic Director for Operations, Intercollegiate, this position plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation of athletic events, facilities, travel, and departmental logistics while maintaining compliance with university, conference, and NCAA policies.

Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Assist in the coordination and execution of all intercollegiate athletic event operations, including home contests, championships, and special events
  • Support game-day operations such as staffing, scheduling, facility readiness, equipment setup, security coordination, and vendor management
  • Assist with athletic facilities operations, including scheduling, maintenance coordination, and event preparation
  • Support team travel logistics, including transportation, lodging, itineraries, and on-site operational needs
  • Assist in departmental purchasing, budget tracking, and invoice processing related to athletic operations
  • Coordinate with internal campus partners including Facilities, Public Safety, Dining Services, and Student Affairs to ensure seamless operations
  • Supervise and train game-day staff, student workers, and volunteers as assigned
  • Assist in developing and implementing operational policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Ensure operational activities align with NCAA, conference, and University regulations
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Deputy Athletic Director for Operations, Intercollegiate
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Department of Athletics
  • Strong financial management skills that include budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. Experience in strategic planning, project management, and process improvement
  • Assist with execution of department requisitions, purchase orders, and travel
  • A deep understanding of the athletic industry, including trends, developments, and best practices.
  • Proven success in enhancing organizational and staff development, with a knack for leading and overseeing transformative change.

Qualification Standards

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in athletics operations, event management, or a related administrative role
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic administrative systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in collegiate athletics, preferably at the NCAA Division I or HBCU level
  • Knowledge of NCAA and conference operational standards
  • Experience supervising staff, students, or volunteers
