Position Summary:

The Associate Athletic Director, Student-Athlete Enhancement oversees the holistic personal, professional, and leadership development of Tulane University student-athletes by providing a comprehensive life skills, career, personal and leadership program that includes education and support for student-athletes. This position builds a rapport work collaboratively with student-athletes, teams, coaches, athletic administrators and campus/community partners. The Associate Athletic Director serves as the advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 5 years of athletic academic advising, life skills and career development experience

OR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • 11 years of athletic academic advising, life skills and career development experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies:

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends during special events, as needed.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Effective time management skills.

  • Great attention to details.

  • Working knowledge of standard computer software such as office suite, email, etc. and ability to learn and utilize specific software necessary for academic and career advising practice.

  • Ability and desire for continuous improvement and learning academic, leadership, and career advising best practices.

  • Ability to motivate and inspire students.

  • Ability to organize, plan, and facilitate small and large group programming.

  • Thorough knowledge of NCAA and American conference rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree

  • Experience at a NCAA Division I institution

NCAA Related:

Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department's efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.

Function: Develop and Implement a Comprehensive Life Skills and Career Development Program (70%)

  • Create, oversee, and assess student-athlete programming and opportunities for personal, professional and career development including operational planning, execution, and evaluation of initiatives.

  • Facilitate and lead collaboration with internal and external stakeholders across the Tulane community.

  • Coordinate and oversee guest speakers and special events associated with leadership, personal and professional development, and student-athlete welfare, including logistics, communication, and post-event assessment.

  • Coordinate and expand initiatives with staff members from the Tulane Letterwinners Association, Tulane Alumni House, and Tulane Career Services to develop programs and resources to enhance career readiness, including the Student-Athlete Career Fair, networking events, and alumni mentor program.

  • Establish metrics and data collection methods to evaluate program offerings.

  • Create and manage budgets for assigned areas.

  • Collaborate with appropriate entities to establish branding designed to promote initiatives and serve as a recruiting tool for prospective student-athletes, including oversight of digital content and program promotions across all platforms.

  • Integrate existing institutional programming, education, and support into comprehensive student-athlete development and leadership programs.

  • Research and implement best practices in the field of student-athlete development.

  • Provide support and consultation to student-athletes and coaches in the areas of team building, motivation, communication, conflict resolution, personal accountability, and leadership.

  • Institute career and leadership assessments for student-athletes, coaches, and staff engaging in personal, professional, and leadership development.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a robust communications plan for the leadership certificate program.

  • Provide enhanced programming that offers a broad approach to meeting the transitional needs of student-athletes matriculating and/or transferring into Tulane University including oversight of onboarding communication, scheduling, and engagement tracking.

  • Provide resources and programming to prepare upcoming graduating student-athletes successfully transition into life after athletics.

  • Oversee post-graduate awards and opportunities as related to student-athlete achievement by assisting student-athletes in completing applications and developing their candidacy for applicable scholarships and awards.

  • Serve as the primary administrative advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) including roster management, leadership development, subcommittee alignment, and communication with coaches and team representatives.

  • Create, track, and update individualized plans for student-athletes as they matriculate through our Student-Athlete Development and Leadership programs including maintaining all records and monitoring engagement data.

  • Administer all aspects of the WAVE Cup, including oversight of category tracking, weekly rankings, communication strategies, and program promotion across teams and platforms.

  • Assist in staff selection and training.

  • Work with academic and career advising colleagues in a cooperative and productive manner, while maintaining consistent and timely communication with coaches, staff, and campus partners.

  • Support one-on-one career development appointments with student-athletes, including resume review, mock interviews, and career exploration, while helping coordinate relevant professional connections.

  • Oversee cultivation and maintenance of relationships with alumni and external partners to expand networking and career opportunities for student-athletes.

Function: Administer the Summer Bridge and Life Skills Programs (15%)

  • Implement a summer bridge program to enhance incoming freshmen student-athletes' academic preparedness prior to initial full-time semester.

  • Implement Athlete Essentials programming for each classification.

  • Work collaboratively with the learning specialist and campus resources to facilitate programming.

  • Develop evaluation metrics and collect data for analysis and improvement of each program, including tracking engagement and maintaining program records.

  • Oversee operational logistics associated with program delivery for participating student-athletes, facilitators, campus partners, etc.

Function: Facilitate Community Service Projects (10%)

  • Coordinate and facilitate community service projects for student-athletes, including identifying opportunities and managing partnerships with local organizations.

  • Track and report student-athletes'' outreach participation in various community service projects to appropriate constituencies, including oversight and completion of all data entry within various reporting systems.

  • Maintain updated community service records through electronic platforms.

  • Communicate service opportunities with student-athletes, coaches and staff, including oversight of coordinating logistics such as transportation, lodging, etc.

  • Collaborate with Athletic staff members to promote student-athlete community engagement via social media and the Tulane Athletics website.
