Orange County defense firm is seeking a Litigation Attorney to join its growing team. The firm handles complex civil defense matters, with a strong concentration in catastrophic personal injury defense for sophisticated companies with significant self-insured retention and deductible structures.

Job Details

The Litigation Attorney will handle complex civil defense matters, with a focus on catastrophic personal injury defense. The ideal candidate will be capable of developing case strategy, managing discovery, communicating with clients, and producing high-quality legal work in a collaborative but autonomous environment.

Responsibilities include:
• Manage civil litigation matters from inception through resolution
• Develop case strategy and evaluate liability, damages, exposure, and settlement posture
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, mediation briefs, reports, and other litigation documents
• Handle written discovery, document review, and discovery disputes
• Take and defend depositions as appropriate
• Prepare for and attend hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trial-related proceedings
• Manage client communications and provide strategic case updates
• Conduct legal research and prepare strong written analysis
• Negotiate effectively and advocate for clients throughout the litigation process
• Work collaboratively with attorneys, staff, clients, experts, and opposing counsel
• Think creatively and identify case issues, defenses, and opportunities others may miss
• Maintain strong attention to detail and produce superior work product

Qualifications:
• 1–7+ years of civil litigation experience
• Defense litigation experience preferred
• Catastrophic injury defense, general liability, insurance defense, premises liability, transportation, construction site injury, or similar complex litigation experience preferred
• Experience autonomously handling case strategy, discovery, and client communications preferred
• Strong legal research and writing skills
• Strong negotiation and advocacy abilities
• Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze complex issues and think outside the box
• Ability to manage a caseload independently while working well within a cohesive team
• Strong judgment, professionalism, and communication skills
• Open to experienced litigators/trial attorneys as well as associates eager to learn and grow
• Active California Bar admission required
