Associate Attorney

We are a Sacramento business law firm looking for an attorney with about three to five years of experience who wants real cases and real responsibility. Our work spans litigation and transactions, with a heavy emphasis on construction.

You will not spend your days on document review. You will take depositions, argue motions, talk to clients, and draft contracts that get signed and used.

What you will actually do

• Handle business and construction disputes from complaint through trial or settlement
• Take and defend depositions, write and argue motions, and prepare cases for trial
• Draft and negotiate contracts, subcontracts, and other business agreements
• Work directly with clients, including business owners, general contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers
• Advise on the licensing, payment, and compliance questions that come up for businesses in California

You will have the opportunity to carry your own matters. You will also have experienced attorneys down the hall who will read your work, tell you what to fix, and show you how to do it better.

You might be a good fit if

• You have a J.D. and are an active member of the California State Bar
• You have roughly three to five years of civil litigation or transactional experience
• You want to be in court, not just near it
• You write clearly and can explain a legal problem to a client who is not a lawyer
• Familiarity with AI tools, such as CLAUDE, is a plus

About the on-site requirement

This job is in our Sacramento office, five days a week. We are not offering a hybrid schedule or remote work.

Some of the best parts of learning this job happen when you walk down the hall with a question, or when you overhear how a senior attorney handles a hard client call. That does not happen over video. If you are looking for remote work, this is not the right role, and we would rather say so now than three weeks into the process.
