Position Summary:
The Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) collaborates with executive leadership to lead nursing operations and drive performance in quality, safety, patient experience, and financial outcomes. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care through effective leadership, alignment, and continuous improvement.
What the Associate Chief Nursing Officer will need:
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Master's degree in nursing, Business Administration, or Healthcare Administration, may be actively enrolled in a program and would be expected to graduate within 18 months of hire.
- If bachelor's degree is in a non-nursing field, a Master's in nursing is require
Credentials/Licensure
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan
- Professional certification (e.g., CENP or NE-BC/NEA-BC) required within 24 months of hire
- Related Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of progressive nursing leadership experience, including leadership at the director level or higher in an acute care hospital or health system. Demonstrated experience in driving clinical quality, patient experience, and operational performance required.
What the Associate Chief Nursing Officer will do:
- Serves as a member of the senior leadership team, advancing the organization's mission, vision, and values
- Leads assigned service lines and clinical areas to achieve operational, clinical, and financial objectives
- Contributes to strategic planning, organizational decision-making, and change management initiatives
- Develops and executes short- and long-term goals, standards of care, and operational plans
- Oversees performance improvement efforts across clinical quality, patient experience, workforce engagement, and financial outcomes
- Analyzes and interprets clinical, operational, and financial data to inform decision-making
- Leads workforce planning, including recruitment, retention, leadership development, and succession planning
- Promotes a culture of shared governance, collaboration, and continuous learning
- Ensures the integration and effective use of healthcare technology and information systems
- Drives the implementation of evidence-based practices to improve patient safety and outcomes
- Ensures compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
- Maintains alignment with current evidence-based nursing practice and national standards
- Approves nursing policies and procedures or appropriately delegates authority
- Maintains confidentiality and ensures compliance with organizational policies and standards of conduct
