VCU’s College of Engineering was established in 1996 asa public-private partnership to address the need for engineering innovation ina 21st-century economy. Under a new Dean of Engineering, the college isundergoing exceptional transformations, expanding its interdisciplinaryresearch and educational offerings and aiming for excellence in impactfulthematic areas of global significance. VCU Engineering’s researchcollaborations with industry, community, and academic partners regularly yieldbreakthroughs in pharmaceutical engineering; smart cities, sustainability, andclean energy; materials development; health care, regenerative medicine,rehabilitation, and medical device development; data science and bettersecurity for cyber and cyber-physical systems. Its multidisciplinary,entrepreneurial approach to engineering education immerses undergraduate,master’s, and doctoral students in meaningful research investigationsthroughout their studies.
VCU Engineering has pioneered several groundbreakingcenters, such as the Medicines for All Institute, an international leader inreducing pharmaceuticals' costs for underserved populations, and the recentlyestablished Convergence Lab, a landmark new $9 million DoD-fundedcross-disciplinary institute focused on solving pressing defense challenges forthe U.S. The college leads the Central Virginia Node of the Commonwealth CyberInitiative, a state supported engine for research, innovation andcommercialization of cybersecurity technologies.
Position Summary:
The CoE at VCU seeks an innovativeand visionary leader to serve as the Associate Dean of Research and Innovation.This position is critical in advancing the college’s research agenda, fosteringa culture of innovation and collaboration, and strengthening partnerships withindustry, government agencies, and academic stakeholders. Reporting directly tothe Dean of the College of Engineering, the Associate Dean of Research andInnovation will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of engineeringresearch and ensuring its alignment with the institution’s strategic goals.
