Overview
The Associate Dean of Health Sciences manages many key operational, supervisory, and programmatic functions to ensure the effectiveness of the Health Sciences division. This role is instrumental in helping the Dean oversee faculty, staff, and academic programming while driving student success, operational excellence, and adherence to the College's strategic goals. The Associate Dean serves as a proactive partner, enabling the Dean to focus on strategic leadership and School-wide oversight. This role includes a particular focus on the educational and administrative leadership for the Nursing program, including the responsibility to ensure compliance with regulations of the NJ Board of Nursing and the ACEN accreditation standards and criteria.
Responsibilities
Faculty and Staff Support
- Observe and evaluate faculty per the faculty contract, providing feedback to align with institutional standards.
- Promote professional development opportunities and oversee implementation of initiatives to support faculty and staff growth.
- Chair and coordinate the activities of the Nursing Faculty Committee and the Health Sciences Faculty committee and serve on all division committees.
- Provide input to the Dean about performance evaluation of Allied Health faculty.
Administrative Operations
- Manage day-to-day operations of the division under the Dean's guidance, ensuring smooth functioning and effective communication.
- Investigate and recommend action related to student grade appeals, appeals of Academic Integrity violations, and complaints.
- Mediate faculty conflicts and student concerns regarding Department Chairs.
- Assist in budget preparation, resource allocation, and financial monitoring, ensuring alignment with division needs and priorities.
- Function in complete compliance with accrediting and licensing bodies affiliated with all Health Sciences programs.
- Oversee course scheduling in collaboration with Department Chairs and the Dean to promote student success and ensure program accessibility and efficiency.
- Collaborate with department chairs to make enrollment management decisions during registration periods.
- Oversee the currency of the student handbook, faculty handbook, and webpage content for all programs.
Student Success and Leadership
- Supervise the collection and maintenance of data to support systematic program evaluation including demographic data, student retention, graduation rates, NCLEX-RN pass rates, and end-of-program student learning outcomes.
- Work in collaboration with faculty and Student Affairs to design, implement, evaluate and improve success and retention strategies.
- Collaborate with department chairs to review curriculum for currency, rigor and integrity.
- Collaborate with Department Chairs to resolve student grievances, problems or complaints, noting patterns that may indicate a need for systemic change.
- Act as a representative for the Dean in committees and meetings, effectively communicating division priorities and initiatives.
- Support the Dean in fostering collaboration between academic departments, Continuing and Professional Studies, and external partners.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with contractual agencies.
- Explore opportunities to create new clinical opportunities and alternative clinical calendars.
- Chair the Nursing Program Advisory Committee.
- Represent the college at both local and state meetings related to the nursing program.
Assessment and Development
- Assist with the assessment of student learning outcomes and program effectiveness in collaboration with faculty and department chairs.
- Assist the Dean in developing and monitoring strategic plans for the division, ensuring alignment with the College's Strategic Plan and Mission.
- Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of annual plans for the division.
- Promote innovation in achieving learning outcomes and delivering high-quality programs.
- Pursue grant opportunities specific to the needs of the Nursing Department.
Other Duties
- Undertake additional responsibilities as delegated by the Dean, ensuring alignment with division and College goals.
- Provide logistical and administrative support during special projects and initiatives.
Qualifications
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- Master''s degree in Nursing.
- Registered Nurse, currently licensed in the state of New Jersey.
- 3-5 years of full-time experience in higher education, to include teaching, administrative and supervisory experience.
- Supervisory experience in a collective bargaining environment preferred.

Must be able to travel locally.
