GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Associate Dean provides administrative oversight and leadership through the planning, direction, implementation, and evaluation of the Educator Preparation Programs department. Ensures that all departmental activities align with and promote institutional, divisional, and departmental visions. Maintains responsibility for supervision and management of the Educator Preparation Programs department including oversight of curriculum and instruction in the program areas of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, and Child and Family Studies. Provides management of department-administered grants and state funding, supervision of full-time and part-time faculty and staff, and oversight of departmental budgeting. As department needs dictate, may teach up to the equivalent of three load points per academic year. The Associate Dean provides service to the department, division, college, and community as assigned by the dean or selected by peers; develops good working relationships with discipline-related professionals in the College's Service area; collaborates and participates in AZTransfer to foster transferability opportunities; serves as a community resource in areas of expertise; is active in their field, and travels within the College district.

Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Standard Expectations:
Lead the planning, development, and evaluation of programs of study, curriculum, and the assessment of student learning for the early childhood, elementary, and secondary education programs as well as child and family studies. Support faculty in developing appropriate course placement standards, measurable performance objectives, and evaluation standards for expected program outcomes.
Review and approve all program and course proposals/revisions in preparation for submission to Instructional Council and the Vice President of Learning and Student Services.
Coordinate the planning and organization of courses, practicum, internship, and field experiences for pre-service and in-service teachers.
Prepare semester schedules for full and part-time instructors and practicum supervisors/coordinators, monitor enrollment, and make schedule adjustments as necessary. Assess staffing needs, determine qualifications needed, and provide appropriate orientation and training as new faculty and staff are brought on.
Engage in creative and scholarly activities within Early Childhood, Elementary, and/or Secondary Educator preparation disciplines.
Remain current in the subject matter areas, techniques of effective instruction, student success strategies, workforce demands, community needs, and state/national trends in the field.
Lead department activities and program reviews using institutional evaluation and data for planning purposes and the determination of the need for new or modified programs.
Participate in college committees and represent the department at college events.
Develop and maintain outreach and cooperative activities. Negotiate contracts, Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs), and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). Build community partnerships, particularly with local schools and local education agencies.
Recruit, supervise, manage, and evaluate full-time and part-time departmental faculty and staff. Conduct probationary reviews of faculty.
Develop, propose, and monitor departmental and grant-related budgets. Approve purchase orders, requisitions, travel claims, and processing of invoices for payment.
Participate in state articulation task forces and assist with internal and external articulation issues and activities.
Ensure maintenance of accurate student records and compliance with Registrar's Office deadlines. Coordinate services with the Business Office, Records and Registration, Financial Aid, and Human Resources to ensure that grades, certifications, contracts, and other departmental matters are accurately processed promptly.
Writes and monitors grants and oversees the management of awarded grants and IGA activities.
Positively support and promote the college's students, faculty, administrators, staff, and communities.
Mediate student-faculty conflicts in the Department.
Supervise the process of textbook and technology adoption for the Department. Coordinate with the Dean regarding textbook changes and software upgrades.
