Description/Job Summary

The Associate Dean, School of Nursing and Health Professions (Nursing Administrator) reports to the Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions and serves as the chief academic and administrative leader for the College's nursing programs. The Associate Dean provides leadership for curriculum development, faculty management, student success initiatives, accreditation compliance, regulatory reporting, clinical partnerships, budgeting, strategic planning, and continuous quality improvement.

The Associate Dean ensures compliance with all requirements of the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and applicable federal and state regulations. The Associate Dean works collaboratively with faculty, staff, healthcare partners, and college leadership to advance nursing education excellence and support workforce needs throughout Maryland.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Assist with the coordination of personnel, schedules, resources, and data to meet the needs of the division and enhance the educational effectiveness of programs and services.
  • Recommend instructional and general policies, conduct meetings to facilitate planning, data analysis and collegial decision-making.
  • Maintain current knowledge of new trends and innovations in community colleges and higher education.
  • Assist the Dean in providing leadership for accreditation and program review, including the assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Promote excellence in teaching and innovation in curriculum development.
  • Assist the Dean in developing guided pathways between workforce and the academy.
  • Work with faculty to plan for curriculum expansion, modifications, and deletions; and set priorities for resource needs.
  • Facilitate academic partnerships among program faculty and four-year transfer institutions.
  • Assist the dean in ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with faculty to identify grant resources to support program development and special projects.
  • Work collaboratively with the program coordinators to manage book adoptions for the division.
  • Conduct faculty evaluations and manage the process and archiving of all nursing faculty evaluations.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned professional and support staff.
  • Work with the Dean to recruit adjunct faculty and review credentials.
  • Work with the Dean to provide oversight for the course schedule and the assignment of faculty to courses; and monitor workloads.
  • Work with the Dean and the AVPAA to manage content for the college catalog.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Masters degree in Nursing or higher (PhD, DNP, EdD) from an accredited institution.

Licensure:

  • Current unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Maryland or eligibility for Maryland licensure prior to employment.

Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in a pre-licensure nursing program.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive nursing leadership experience (Program Coordinator, Department Chair, Assistant Dean, Associate Dean, Director, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience with ACEN accreditation, systematic program evaluation, and nursing program outcomes assessment.
  • Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation.
  • Experience supervising faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience using data to improve student outcomes.

Special Requirement:

The Associate Dean shall serve as the designated Nursing Administrator or shall be qualified to assume the role of Nursing Administrator as defined by Maryland Board of Nursing regulations.

The Associate Dean must possess the qualifications necessary to serve as the chief nursing administrator for all nursing education programs and maintain compliance with Maryland Board of Nursing regulations governing nursing program leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, EdD, or related field) from an accredited institution.
  • Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credential.
  • Experience serving as a Nursing Administrator recognized by a state board of nursing.
  • Experience leading ACEN self-study, accreditation visits, and substantive change reporting.
  • Experience overseeing multiple nursing education pathways, including Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing, and articulation/bridge programs.
  • Community college administrative experience.
  • Experience managing simulation and clinical education programs.
  • Experience securing grants and external funding.
