Job Description
The Associate Director of Operations reports directly to the Director of Campus Recreation and serves on the department's senior leadership team for strategic vision-setting and supporting long-term continuous improvement. This includes the areas of building operations, reservations and events, marketing and outreach, and membership services.
Job Duties
Job Duties:
Facility Area Operations (30%):
- Provide leadership, direction and support for the day-to-day operations of campus recreation facilities, and other related facilities and spaces.
- Responsible for operational policies and procedures within facility operations in compliance with university, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Oversee all marketing and outreach staff and strategies including programs and services marketing, reservations and events marketing and any outreach and sponsorship opportunities.
- Oversee membership services including the development of membership development strategies, member communications, and locker services.
- Manage and coordinate facility reservation process for all campus recreation sport facilities including the Student Recreation Center, University Camp, Sewell Park, tennis courts, Jowers Center, Spring Lake Sports Complex and West Sport Fields Complex.
Staff Development and Oversight (25%):
- Provide supervision and guidance to one assistant director, who in turn supervises multiple coordinators, supports staff and student staff, and one coordinator
- Meet regularly with direct reports to provide oversight and guidance regarding job responsibilities, administrative questions, and ongoing professional development.
- Implement the Performance Management process.
Department Leadership (20%):
- Provides leadership as a senior staff member of the Department working directly with the Director to establish goals, objectives, and strategic plan; make departmental decisions; and develop and implement staff, facilities and programmatic policies and procedures for program areas, facilities and multiple support areas.
- Assist with coordinating department strategic planning including data collection and forecasting for major facility and program expansions.
- Establish the overall department assessment plan in collaboration with the leadership team.
- Lead functional area assessment efforts and provide oversight and guidance to staff.
Administration and Budget Development (10%):
- Assist direct reports with the development of their individual area budgets.
- Work with Business Manager and leadership team to compile budget data and guidelines in preparation for annual budget development process.
- Approve staff time and ensure compliance with payroll and purchasing processes.
Risk Management and Safety: (10%)
- Ensure staff compliance with industry standard safety and risk management practices, facility and equipment inspections, and established Campus Recreation policies and procedures.
Other Duties (5%)
- Actively participate in departmental programs and projects designed to support the mission and goals of the university, division, and department.
- Serve on committees and task forces, as assigned.
