The Associate Director, Development is a key member of the National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) Development team and supports the organization’s fundraising efforts by identifying, researching, and managing grant opportunities in support of NIHF’s PreK–12 education programs. In this role, the individual manages a robust pipeline of current and prospective donors whose funding provides support to children with financial need and expands NIHF’s reach nationwide. Future growth opportunities may include expanded fundraising responsibilities, including the Collegiate Inventors Competition, NIHF Induction Events, and the NIHF Museum.
 
Position Responsibilities:
  • Identify, research, and pursue foundation, corporate, and community grant opportunities to support NIHF’s PreK–12 education programs.
  • Manage a portfolio of grant opportunities, which will include assigned grants and prospect research for new opportunities; prepare and submit letters of intent, proposals, and final reports.
  • Collaborate with Development team members to implement grant strategies that expand access to NIHF programs for children with financial need.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to collect programmatic, financial, and outcome data required for grant submissions and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate and complete grant records, deadlines, and stewardship activities in Salesforce.
  • Support funder stewardship through timely acknowledgements, reporting, and routine communications; funder interactions for this role focus on grant compliance, reporting, and ongoing communication.
  • Prepare clear, accurate written materials that effectively communicate NIHF’s mission, programs, and impact.
  • Assist with regionally targeted funding strategies in collaboration with Development and Sales teams.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of grant processes, templates, and tracking systems.
  • Travel, as required, and perform other related duties as assigned.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong writing, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of grant submissions with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proven proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using Salesforce or other donor or grant management databases.
  • Self-directed, performance-oriented individual who demonstrates initiative and accountability.
  • Ability to represent NIHF professionally and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to regularly work in the office and attend in-person meetings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via email, chat, phone, and in-person meetings.
  • Requires regular, reliable, and on-time attendance.
 
Credentials and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit development or grant writing preferred
  • Demonstrated experience preparing grant proposals and reports
