    Primary Function of Organizational Unit

    Located within the North Carolina Central University Division of Student Affairs, Student Access & Success Programs is dedicated to providing proactive support services, accommodations, education, and training designed to increase postsecondary success for students who are first-generation, from limited-income households, and/or have documented disabilities.

    The TRIO Student Support Services Teacher Preparation Program (SSS-TEACH) provides comprehensive academic, personal, and career support to eligible students majoring in education-related fields. Program services include academic advising, tutoring in education subjects, graduate school and research preparation, financial literacy education, and exposure to education career pathways.

    The program is committed to promoting student persistence, retention, and graduation while supporting the development of a diverse and well-prepared education workforce. Through targeted services and individualized support, TRIO SSS-TEACH fosters academic success and educational attainment among traditionally underrepresented students pursuing careers in education.

    Primary Purpose of Position

    The Associate Director of the TRIO Teacher Preparation Program (SSS-TEACH) provides leadership and administrative oversight for the day-to-day operations of a federally supported program designed to promote the retention, persistence, and graduation of first-generation, limited-income, and/or students with disabilities who are pursuing education-related fields of study. Reporting to the Executive Director for Student Access & Success, the Associate Director provides operational leadership, supervises professional and student staff, and supports the planning, implementation, and delivery of comprehensive student support services.

    The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable federal, institutional, and program regulations, while contributing to strategic planning, program assessment, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Associate Director also supports budgetary management and the effective use of program resources to achieve established goals and objectives. Serving as a key liaison among students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders, the position plays a critical role in advancing student success and ensuring the effective delivery of services that support participants throughout their academic journey and preparation for careers in education.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of and two years of experience working with low-income, first-generation students from diverse backgrounds.
    • Familiarity with financial aid processing, postsecondary admissions, proposalwriting and operations.
    • Knowledge of computer-based data management systems.
    • A minimum of one (1) year of experience as an administrator of federal grantrelated programs.
    • Minimum of one (1) year of staff supervision and budget management experience.
    • Knowledge and/or experience working in a collegiate environment.
    • Proven fiscal management skills and budgetary experience.
    • Familiarity with college admissions and financial aid requirements.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).
    • Ability to effectively present information to groups of administrators, staff,teachers, students and the community.

    Minimum Education/Experience

    • Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education, or a related field.

    Primary Responsibilities and Duties

    Function Leadership, Administration & Operations Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

    • Provide supervisory oversight of the Program Coordinator, Graduate Student Success Coordinator, and tutors/coaches, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
    • Lead the design, coordination, and assessment of education-focused academic and non-cognitive development workshops.
    • Ensure program compliance with TRIO regulations, EDGAR, and institutional policies, including accurate maintenance of student files and documentation.
    • Manage data systems (Blumen and university platforms) to monitor student progress and program performance.
    • Support the Executive Director with strategic planning, program assessment, and budgetary oversight, including proposals, reports, and fiscal accountability.
    • Develop systems and processes that ensure efficiency, accuracy, and accountability in daily operations.

    Function Student Services & Advising Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

    • Maintain a caseload of SSS-TEACH participants and provide comprehensive academic, financial, and career counseling.
    • Coordinate tutoring and mentoring assignments, ensuring quality of academic interventions.
    • Support students in navigating academic and institutional processes, including course registration, FAFSA completion, and teacher education enrichment.
    • Refer students to campus support services and external resources as needed.

    Function Data Management, Compliance & Evaluation Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

    • Direct program data collection, documentation, and reporting in Blumen and other systems.
    • Contribute to the development of outcome-based evaluation tools and dashboards to monitor progress toward federal and institutional objectives.
    • Lead preparation of data summaries, compliance reports, and materials for the Annual Performance Report (APR).

    Function Campus Collaboration, Outreach & Recruitment Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

    • Represent SSS-TEACH at institutional meetings, orientations, community events, and recruitment activities.
    • Collaborate with School of Education (SOE)and departments such as Financial Aid, Academic Advising, SOE faculty, and Career Services to enhance participant support.
    • Assist with presentations and outreach strategies to recruit eligible students into the program.
    • Contribute to the development of public relations materials and communication strategies.

    • Attend required federal and regional TRIO trainings and conferences.
    • Participate in university committees, professional development opportunities, and contribute to the advancement of TRIO and student success initiatives.
