Job Summary

The Associate Director of Internal and Executive Communications provides senior-level strategic leadership for internal and executive communications that advance Georgia Gwinnett Colleges institutional priorities and employee engagement. This position serves as a key communications leader and trusted advisor to executive and senior leadership, responsible for setting strategy, directing high-visibility communications initiatives and ensuring consistent, compelling messaging across platforms. The Associate Director aligns internal and executive communications programs with the colleges mission, values and strategic goals while leading internal communications decision-making and planning.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the strategic development, execution and continuous improvement of an integrated internal and executive communications program aligned with the colleges strategic plan, institutional objectives and evolving campus needs.
  • Serves as a senior advisor to executive and cabinet-level leadership on internal and executive communications, providing counsel on messaging strategy, audience segmentation, tone, timing and delivery channels.
  • Directs and produces high-level executive communications, including presidential and senior leader speeches, scripts, presentations, talking points and written messages, ensuring clarity, alignment with institutional priorities and consistent voice.
  • Oversees research, analysis and message development to inform executive communications, change management initiatives, institutional narratives and leadership positioning.
  • Establishes and manages communications priorities, timelines and workflows for high-visibility and time-sensitive initiatives, ensuring effective coordination with leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Provides strategic oversight of internal communications channels, including campus-wide newsletters, staff intranet content, executive updates and leadership communications, ensuring effectiveness, accessibility and brand alignment.
  • Champions quality, consistency and accuracy across all internal communications deliverables, setting standards and ensuring adherence to institutional brand and messaging guidelines; Monitors trends and best practices in higher education communications, advising leadership on innovations and opportunities to strengthen internal and executive messaging.
  • Leads internal communications strategy and execution for major institutional initiatives, accreditation and assessment activities, strategic campaigns and marquee events such as commencement and signature programs.
  • Partners with Communications staff, IT, Human Resources and campus leaders to assess, implement and optimize platforms, tools and processes that improve internal communications reach, effectiveness and engagement.

Required Qualifications

  • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, communications or a related field
  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • 2 - 3 years of supervisory experience (people or program)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate Degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, communications or a related field
  • Two years of experience developing sites and content within SharePoint for business purposes
  • Experience developing and launching internal communications and intranet solutions
  • Experience with executive communications
  • Experience with user management and permissions

Proposed Salary

63,500 - 74,000

Salary offer will be dependent on candidates experience and qualifications, internal equity considerations, budget availability, and salary administration guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems regarding information architecture and hierarchy
  • Skills and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office
  • Knowledge and understanding of Section 508 Compliance
  • Knowledge of AP Style and the ability to review and write using it
  • Knowledge of, and skill in the use of, various programming languages
  • Knowledge and understanding, at a moderate level, of Google Analytics
