Help
Administration. Assists the Director in the management of and the delivery of all international education programs and leads the development, administration, and evaluation of new international education programs. Provides information, resources, and training to cadre of faculty and staff serving as program managers, academic advisors, and troop commanders. Assists in the development of applicable curriculum and pre-travel preparation. Coordinates with other mission elements to plan and schedule international visits to USAFA and to foreign service academies. Reviews and revises forms, letters, and publications focused on international education programs. Proactively works to support quality improvement in products, services, programs, and policy related to international education. Serves as an administrative expert, mentor, and source of advice and guidance for cadets seeking to participate in international education programs. Works to achieve and support quality improvement in all products and services and takes a proactive approach in promoting programs and policy. May instruct Department of Foreign Languages and International Programs (DFFL) sponsored courses, or courses in another academic department commensurate with academic qualifications.
Service. Performs appropriate administrative functions, as assigned, to ensure the timely and effective offering of education. Participates in faculty governance by attending department and faculty meetings and serving, when requested, on departmental and faculty committees, teams, and task forces. Provides advice and counsel to improve the quality of educational programs.
Scholarship. Scholarly duties may include all or portions of the following based on department performance plans: As time permits, develops research on topics of interest to the scholarly community. Builds credible reputation as a scholar through continued progress in specified research agenda and contributions to the body of knowledge. Prepares papers and presentations containing the findings of research and scholarly study. Publishes peer- reviewed work in appropriate professional outlets at a pace and quality consistent with accepted disciplinary standards. Pursues professional development through membership in professional organizations, consultation on scholarly products, and participation in organized professional events. Seeks and supports opportunities to engage cadets in research efforts and community events within the discipline, like participating in conferences.
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignment in consideration of skills, qualifications, and mission requirements. Develops, modifies, and/or interprets performance standards. Explains performance expectations to employees and provides regular feedback on strengths and weaknesses. Holds employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments. Appraises subordinate workers performance ensuring consistency and equity in rating techniques. Recommends awards when appropriate and approves within-grade increases. Hears and resolves employee complaints and refers serious unresolved complaints to higher level management. Initiates action to correct performance or conduct problems. Effects minor disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands and recommends action in more serious disciplinary matters. Prepares documentation to support actions taken. Identifies employee developmental needs and provides or arranges for training (formal and on-the-job) to maintain and improve job performance. Encourages self-development. Approves master leave schedule assuring adequate coverage for peak workloads and traditional holiday vacation time. Demonstrates sensitivity to ideas of subordinates. Promotes an environment in which employees are empowered to participate in and contribute to effective mission accomplishment. Discharges security responsibilities by ensuring education and compliance with security directives for employees with access to classified or sensitive material. Recognizes and takes action to correct situations posing a threat to the health or safety of subordinates. Periodically reviews position descriptions to ensure accuracy, and the most effective utilization of personnel resources. Explains classification determinations to subordinate employees. Provides a work environment that is free from all forms of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Supports the agencys EEO program through allocation of personnel to participate in community outreach and recruitment programs, ensures full cooperation of employees with EEO office officials. Addresses subordinates concerns, whether perceived or real, and follows up with appropriate action to correct or eliminate tension in the workplace.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be assessed based on evidence of teaching effectiveness, education, relevance of education and experience in teaching one of the departments eight languages, and service to applicants discipline and institution. Successful candidates will demonstrate the potential for teaching excellence, academic service, sustained intellectual contributions, and will have native or near native proficiency in one of the departments eight languages.
Applicants should submit the following items: curriculum vitae, statement of scholarly and teaching interests, and evidence of teaching effectiveness. Applicants should additionally provide the names and contact information for three professional references. U.S. citizenship is required. Essential qualities expected of every faculty member include the personal attributes of integrity, industry, cooperation, and initiative.
ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES: Masters degree (Doctoral degree preferred)
Discipline(s): Foreign language teaching (French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese or Russian), second language acquisition, language and culture, literature or other related disciplines are preferred.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience and effectiveness in teaching one of the departments eight languages to undergraduate students. Experience with teaching languages at a service academy preferred. Candidate must have no less than three years of proven experience as an instructor at the university level. Applicants should be willing and able to serve as an escort for cadet overseas summer language immersion programs. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience in the Department of International Programs.

EDUCATION:

FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.

The USAF Academy does not offer tenure. Initial faculty appointments are for 3 years. At the end of the second year, the original appointment may be extended for an additional 3 years (6 years total) with the possibility of successive extensions. This appointment system provides long-term employment stability for reappointment-eligible faculty with extensions occurring with at least 3 years remaining on a current appointment. Extensions are based on an assessment of performance, Air Force and departmental needs, and financial constraints. Historically, 95% of eligible faculty are extended, and the average length of time on faculty for those currently serving in this system exceeds 12 years.

USAFA, located just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is an undergraduate institution that awards the Bachelor of Science degree.
