Associate Director of Research & Assessment

Job Summary:

The Associate Director will work closely with the Assistant Vice Provost for Educational Effectiveness to support the assessment of student learning at the University of San Francisco in the academic programs, core curriculum, co-curricular and service units and other areas as determined. In addition, the associate director will work collaboratively with faculty and staff engaged in assessment activities from a variety of units, including the academic, core curriculum, co-curricular and service units. Alongside the assistant vice provost, the associate director will be the primary support resource, including clerical support, for all ongoing efforts to improve the assessment of student learning and to maintain WSCUC and professional accreditations

Responsibilities:

Analysis and Reporting of Key Data

  • Identify strategies for collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data using innovating approaches to assess campus-wide student learning and success.
  • Conduct methodological and statistical analyses of assessment research efforts and national surveys (e.g. NSSE) for support of measuring of academic, core, co-curricular, service units, and other USF goals and learning outcomes
  • Write reports to support campus-wide assessment initiatives, for WSCUC, and for all professional/disciplinary accreditors, and disseminate those reports to key university stakeholders, including Board of Trustees, Office of the Provost, Deans, and Student Life Leadership
  • Participate in institutional committees to advance and improve data gathering and analysis
  • Develop strategies for the effective gathering, coordination, and sharing of student success data within and beyond USF, including but not limited to web-based dissemination

Institutional Surveys

  • Identify needs for additional data to support assessment (e.g. alumni surveys, student success survey) and design, administer, analyze, and report on results
  • Provide institutional support and training to curricular and co-curricular units as they design and implement their own survey methods for assessment

Administrative Support

  • Act as a key resource in the Office of Assessment and Accreditation Support
  • Provide administrative support to the Assistant Vice Provost for Educational Effectiveness, the Office of Assessment and Accreditation Support and to the Office of the Provost, as needed
  • Coordinate, collect, develop sampling and randomization strategies, and store student artifacts used for campus-wide assessment efforts
  • Assume responsibility for document control of large reports to WSCUC and professional accreditors, including tracking, organizing and uploading numerous appendices to these reports
  • Manage group writing projects, where multiple individuals write collaboratively

Training and Development

  • Provide consultation and support to program leadership and co-curricular staff by developing and providing training, creating resource material, planning and conducting training in workshops, in collaboration with the Assistant Vice Provost for Educational Effectiveness.
  • Attend and support the University Assessment Committee meetings and other related committees and groups, as needed
  • Contribute to scholarship by participating in assessment conferences and presenting when appropriate
  • Supervise and mentor student assistants
  • Perform other assessment-related responsibilities as may be assigned

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A Masters degree is required in a directly related field (e.g. social science, assessment, statistics)
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each responsibility satisfactorily
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in research methods and design with knowledge and experience in advanced qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques and relevant software tools (e.g., Tableau and Qualtrics)
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate results of research and assessment
  • Effective organizational skills; ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals and groups that have differing levels of knowledge and skills and varying roles and responsibilities
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize assigned duties, and effectively manage processes related to those duties
  • An active interest in ongoing professional development in areas of assessment and is eager to participate in workshops, conferences, and publication opportunities
  • Five years of higher education experience in assessment
