Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Housing and Residence Life, the Associate Director is responsible for the supervision, planning, organization and coordination of all aspects of professional and paraprofessional staff. This includes the selection, training, and evaluation of all Area Coordinators, Resident Assistants and other student staff in conjunction with HRL leadership. . This position requires a student-centered leader who plays a vital role in enhancing the residential experience at the university to foster a safe, healthy, and engaging on-campus living environment. This position works closely with the Director in performing various responsibilities including providing administrative leadership for the department of Housing and Residence Life. This position is responsible for developing a strong team and enhancing the living and learning experience of residential students.

Required Knowledge and Skills
Master's degree required: Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or related field preferred.
Three years full-time post masters experience required.
Full-time experience in a residence life live-in or live-on position required.
Self-starter with ability to work independently as well as be an effective team member.
Strong organizational and administrative skills.
Strong interpersonal, communication, written and oral presentation skills.
Ability to work professionally and effectively with students, parents/guardians, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Refined presentation skills, in both large and small groups.
Presentation of a consistently professional demeanor at all times, even in difficult or frustrating situations.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
Five years of full-time post masters experience preferred.
Previous experience as a Hall Director or Area Coordinator preferred.
Previous supervision of professional staff preferred.
Functional Requirements
Observing and physically accessing campus housing (residence halls and apartments including those under construction or renovation) as required for staff oversight, job evaluation, training/orientation events, and for meetings with managers, committees, and vendors.
Extended sedentary periods alternate with extended highly active periods to complete responsibilities of the position. Frequent physical movement during some events to oversee activities, to make presentations, and to interact with attendees.
Ability to use computers and computer systems (hardware and software) to set up functions, to enter data, to retrieve and process information and to create documents. Ability to retrieve information from written documents and from computer-generated reports.
Effective problem solving and sustained high level of accuracy while meeting deadlines and achieving critical outcomes, even under demanding conditions such as multiple priorities and short-notice deadlines.
The application of effective diplomatic and interpersonal communication skills when mediating conflicts between competing interests, some of whom may at times express strong emotions such as anger.
The presentation of a consistently professional demeanor at all times, even in difficult, negative or frustrating situations such as when handling complaints from students, parents/guardians, staff, faculty, or members of the community.
Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements
Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Frequent extended or irregular hours required, including evenings and weekends.
Occasional local or regional travel may be required to attend meetings, trainings and events.
