Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Chicago, Illinois .OverviewThe role involves designing and supporting electrical distribution systems, working in both office and field environments, and supporting project development, design, and inspection activities related to utility projects in dense urban settings.ResponsibilitiesDevelop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV, including programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reportsEnsure compliance with safety, design, and quality standardsTravel to sites as needed, perform inspections, and conduct engineering design work at the officePerform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for poles, guying, conductor sag/tension, and voltage dropDevelop permitting documents for various authoritiesSupport construction activities, including post-construction reviews and root cause analysis of outagesCoordinate conflicting utility requirements and develop work permits, easements, and ROW applicationsGain experience with customer GIS and WMS systems, including GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer, and MaximoQualificationsCompleted bachelor of science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET‑accredited institutionProficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for required travelWillingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environmentsStrong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida‑Calc or similarExperience with CAD tools, MicroStation and/or GISKnowledge of NESC standards and design standardsWe thank all applicants for their interest.
