Atlanta Black Star is seeking an Associate News Editor to support our fast-paced digital newsroom. This role is ideal for someone with prior newsroom or news production experience who thrives in a real-time environment and is eager to grow within a high-performing editorial team.
Reporting directly to the News Editor, this role will play a critical part in executing daily coverage, monitoring breaking news, editing and publishing stories, and helping move content quickly from idea to publication.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer and editor with sharp news judgment, a deep interest in current events, and the ability to operate with urgency in a high-volume news cycle.

Position Requirements
Responsibilities:
Support the News Editor in managing daily editorial output in a fast-paced newsroom
Monitor breaking news, social platforms, and competitor coverage throughout the day
Quickly surface story ideas and assist in developing angles for coverage
Edit, write, and publish stories with speed, accuracy, and strong editorial judgment
Assist in turning around breaking news stories under tight deadlines
Rewrite and adapt content from multiple sources into clean, engaging digital copy
Update stories in real time as new information becomes available
Collaborate with writers and social team to ensure stories are optimized for distribution
Maintain high editorial standards while working at speed
Required Experience:
3-5+ years of experience in a digital newsroom, broadcast newsroom, or news production environment
Experience as a digital content producer, assignment editor, or newsroom coordinator strongly preferred
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Core Skills:
Strong writing and copy editing skills
Ability to quickly turn around clean, accurate copy under pressure
Sharp news judgment and understanding of what makes a story compelling
Familiarity with sourcing stories from social media, wire services, and live coverage
Experience using social platforms as real-time reporting tools

Salary $63,500 - $68,000 + Performance Bonuses
