Tesla is seeking an ambitious Associate Environmental Engineer to support the Gigafactory Nevada campus. The Associate Environmental Engineer will report directly to the Sr. Environmental Engineer and will support environmental compliance programs for Nevada Manufacturing sites.

The Associate Environmental Engineer will develop, implement, and continuously improve programs within the EHS Management System framework in partnership with the broader EHS and Infrastructure teams. This individual will monitor and analyze operational, facility and data collection trends and aspects to ensure conformance to internal and external requirements, as well as to support opportunities for continuous improvement.

The candidate will develop, implement and continuously improve programs within the EHS Management System framework. They will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health and safety requirements and ensure conformance to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.

  • Prepare, update, and maintain Discharge Monitoring Reports for relevant water permits, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Reclaim Water Management Plans (RWP), and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans
  • Support Air Permit Evaluations and Compliance Recordkeeping & Monitoring
  • Support EPCRA environmental report preparation, including Toxic Chemical Release Inventory and Tier II (Hazardous Materials Storage Permit)
  • Support the completion of waste classifications for new waste streams, sample coordinating & data analysis
  • Manage the chemical inventory auditing program by partnering with EHS and production stakeholders as well as administering chemical approval process using established procedures
  • Prepare environmental pollution release calculations and develop, track, and report environmental metrics
  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent experience
  • 0-2 years of experience managing multi-media environmental compliance programs and related projects
  • Experience preparing air permit applications, air permit recordkeeping, or environmental reports
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced environment where demands and priorities change rapidly
  • Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, engineers, legal counsel, technical specialists, and management cross-functionally in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Foundational knowledge of EHS laws (EPCRA, RCRA, IFC, DOT, CAA, CWA, OSHA, etc.), regulations, and standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
