Participates in supporting and supervising litigation as assigned. **Responsibilities** Anticipates, identifies, and resolves legal issues in both transactional legal work and on a variety of general legal issues, including healthcare related issues. With respect to transactional work, drafts, reviews, negotiates, and advises on contracts involving software licenses, equipment purchases, professional services, employment, research, and related matters. With respect to general legal issues, advises University leaders on employment, faculty, and student matters. Advises University leaders in administrative hearings and litigation and oversees legal representation in such cases. Negotiates settlements involving legal issues or transactions on behalf of the University in conjunction with other University officials. Advises on responses to records requests made pursuant to state and federal law. Drafts, reviews, and advises on policies and procedures, regulations, bylaws, and other documents. Educates and trains University community about legal issues. Conducts and supervises legal research and analysis. Prepares written and verbal legal advice and opinions of counsel as needed. Coordinates legal services to departments and divisions within areas of legal specialty. Supervises support staff, more junior attorneys, and outside counsel on a project basis. Demonstrated organizational, effective verbal/written communication and human relations skills also required. An excellent academic record and related experience preferred. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. **Preferences** Two or more years of experience in private or university based law practice preferred (judicial clerkship can substitute for one or more years of practice). Experience in transactions; healthcare, particularly Stark and Anti-Kickback laws, and HIPAA ; employment law; employment-based immigration; tax law, particularly in relation to governmental employment benefits and tax-exempt organizations; intellectual property; legislative processes; open records law; or higher education operations is useful. **Type** Benefited Staff **Special Instructions Summary** **Additional Information** The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems (“URS”).
