Our team is collaborative, solutions-driven, and composed of professionals who value respect, responsiveness, and teamwork as much as technical excellence.Position SummaryWe are seeking an Associate In-House Real Estate Attorney to join our in-house legal department at our Walnut Creek headquarters. This is a high-impact, hands-on role that works directly with the General Counsel, Associate General Counsel, senior management in other departments and cross-functional business units. The Associate Attorney will support a range of transactional and operational legal matters related to BDC's real estate development, acquisition, leasing, financing, property management, and entity governance activities. This role offers daily exposure to executive leadership and potential for long‑term advancement within the legal department. We are looking for someone who thrives in a team‑oriented, busy environment and can build strong working relationships across departments.This is a full‑time, exempt position with regular in‑office business hours from Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on business needs.Key ResponsibilitiesDraft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial real estate documents, including:Purchase and sale agreementsRetail leasesReciprocal easement agreementsEntity formation and governance documentsPartnership agreementsOversee legal due diligence for acquisitions and development projects, including:Reviewing title reports, surveys, CC&Rs, parcel maps, and lease abstractsCoordinating with title companies, escrow officers, and third‑party consultantsManage legal aspects of entity compliance and governance for BDC and its affiliatesSupport litigation management and interface with outside counsel as neededPrepare internal reports summarizing transaction milestones, issues, and lessons learnedAdvise company departments (e.g., leasing, property management, development, and accounting) on a wide range of legal issues affecting owned and pending properties.QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) from an ABA‑accredited law school, MBA a plusActive member in good standing of the California State Bar1–4 years of experience practicing real estate law (law firm or in‑house experience preferred)Demonstrated interest in real estate and transactional lawStrong legal writing, analytical, and communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced and often high‑pressure environmentCollaborative, detail‑oriented, and proactiveHumble, team‑oriented mindset with a willingness to pitch in beyond strictly defined legal dutiesProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe AcrobatWillingness to work extended hours when needed to meet critical deadlinesWorkplace & CultureBDC is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
