Position Overview Mechanical Engineer – Responsible for research, design, fabrication, and support of mechanical and electromechanical products and systems for Nidec motors. Location: Mankato, MN (On‑Site). Shift: Monday‑Friday, 8:00am‑5:00pm.Key Responsibilities Perform calculations using Excel, MathCad, and other engineering tools.Conduct finite element structural analysis.Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.Research and analyze customer design requirements, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and product maintenance.Work with sales to research and analyze customer specifications to create design proposals.Create detailed designs for manufacturing in a cross‑functional environment following manufacturability and quality initiatives.Review drawing packages and order documentation completed by other designers and engineers.Design products applying engineering principles to meet customer specifications.Design products to meet safety, industry, and agency certification requirements.Evaluate project requirements for effort and provide estimated completion times.Ensure the latest design practices are utilized in design projects.Perform testing to evaluate structural, thermal, and vibration characteristics of products.Create bills of materials and assist designers/technicians with their creation.Coordinate assembly and testing activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.Collaborate with production during initial machine release to record and improve manufacturing or procurement challenges.Evaluate customer test requirements and assign or write test procedures to meet those requirements.Present proposed designs to customers and negotiate changes to eliminate functional or dimensional problems.Maintain and support existing products, focusing on reliability, cost, and manufacturability improvements.Assign GD&T dimensional tolerance on parts and verify tolerance stack‑up.Communicate product specifications to electrical and mechanical designers and advise on their impact on design.Perform additional activities as directed by management.Document and communicate technical results within the company and to customers.Qualifications Knowledge of AC or DC synchronous/inductive motors and generators.Experience with rotating equipment and generators.Product design and development experience in structural and mechanical machinery.Minimum 0–3 years' experience in structural and mechanical product design.Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated initiative, organizational skill, and professional work habits.Proficiency with Excel, MathCad, and other engineering calculation tools.Proficiency with PTC Creo or a similar 3‑D modeling software.Experience with AutoCAD.Proficient with GD&T.Proficient with Oracle (ERP), Aras (PLM), Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office.Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete responsibilities without external motivation.Must be a U.S. citizen (required for the North Mankato facility).Benefits Competitive compensation with attractive salary and bonus opportunities.Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage effective from the first day.401(k) plan with 100% company match on the first 6% of employee contributions, plus an additional 3% employer contribution.Generous paid time off and holiday schedule.Tuition reimbursement and continuous learning opportunities.Additional perks and programs to enhance overall experience.Equal Employment Opportunity Nidec is an Equal Employment Opportunity and affirmative action employer that encourages diversity in the workplace.
